What if there was a car coming out of the sideroad on the right and they were looking in the direction they expected oncoming traffic to appear from? Yeah alright you're supposed to stop at the give-way line, but on a straight stretch of road like that a lot of drivers will just inch forward because they don't expect some nutter to be driving up the street on the wrong side. Dude in the BMW was going too fast to have been able to react in time if something like that had happened. It's still dangerous driving even if it passed without further incident.
I'm with MrDrem - it's better for people who drive like this to be advised to be more careful before they cause an accident, rather than waiting for them to nearly / actually cause one.

I'm really glad that the Highway Code disagrees with you on that, otherwise my road-use experiences would be a lot less pleasant than they are.

In a probably pointless and largely hyperbolic analogy you could argue firing a gun along a crowded high street is perfectly acceptable so long as nobody actually gets hit by the bullet.
That driver's a numpty, Ronin's probably playing in his head, that is not acceptable driving and if he gets away with it he'll carry on pulling daft stunts like that.

Catfood - while I respect the view that most numpty driving is both a. too numerous and b. often not serious enough to warrant reporting, THIS incident is pretty serious IMHO.
I strongly suspect that if a trafpol car had witnessed that driving they would have pulled the X5 over and ticketed him.
In no way would I class it a "waste of police time". -

I'm pretty sure you can upload videos to youtube as 'private', which means they're only accessible via the link.
I'm also fairly certain you can send the link to the police without posting it on a forum.

Which one?
Section 106 Public Order I think.

It's also the common law offense of outraging public decency (depending on exactly what you say of course), but I can't be bothered to keep track of exactly where these things are in the latest versions of legislation.

Silly BMW Xs Diver overtook me on the wrong side of a traffic island on my way home yesterday, right outside the Police Station on Garratt Lane...
Numpty BMW Xs Driver - YouTube
I'm sure he didn't know I filmed him...
Now to fill in the form for the police...
He was obviously annoyed at your road position or speed, as other people had mentioned, he had good visibility a clear road ahead and a hazard (you) in his normal lane. What he did was cheeky, but you obviously have too much time on your hands to be editing together youtube videos and sending them to the fuzz.
Do you drive yourself?

What the driver did was potentially homicidal, it gained him literally nothing, he risked smashing into anyone crossing the road who, quite reasonably, would not expect a car to come screaming along on the wrong side of the road.

Saw the opposite of this today - a woman pulling out of a side road to turn right, but only checking that the destination lane was clear. I hit the anchors, the cyclist a few feet ahead of me started screaming and swerving (he was fine, kept going), and old lady in car stopped in the middle of the lane, starts having a minor panic attack and repeating "sorry, sorry". I was a bit concerned that she was going to go into shock. Before I could check that she was OK, some dickhead finds the button for his horn.

So, the latest e-mail from the merry Plod states that they have decided that as the orignal video has been in the public domain with the "Numpty" comments on it, they feel it would not e correct to proceed further. They have however recorded the Reg and details of the incident in case of further complaints about the driver. They have also checked that the driver has insurance, and that the MOT and tax are in date, and that there is nothing outstanding against the car on their intelligence system.
So, in conclusion, worth reporting, but please get it right next time, and they'll take action. They did confirm that this is exactly the sort of incident that they are interested in, and that its unfortunate that my labeling him a numpty has stopped them acting.
I've also had some useful comments back from them regarding videos and filling in the roadsafe forms, which I'll turn into a new post so the info is up front somewhere.

MrDrem..
I can't but help but feel you've been brushed off.. I can't see how calling some one a numpty and it being in "the public domain" could prevent PoPo from prosocuting..

That reminds me, I think my neighbor is downloading movies ilegally from the internet. I better make a video of him doing it and send it to the correct authorities.
Oh, also my other nieghbor isn't using a bin of the correct regulation dimensions, I better record that too, edit it together and send it off to the council.
Going to be a busy day! I salute you MrDrem may jobsworths like us continue to flourish in this digital age!

Yes i drive.
I was doing, as i said above, I suspect over 20mph. I can check, but can't be bothered. My average over the 4.8 miles was only 15mph, but with a top speed of over 26mph. That bit of road isn't near any traffic lights, so i was going to have been shifting it some.
The police have confirmed that they would have been interested, but for my labeling the guy a numpty. End. Of.

MrDrem. Ask The Met how labelling someone clearly breaking the law a numpty affects them bringing a prosecution..

Quite likely. I'm not going to argue with them given the number of poeple here who disagree with my desision to pass it to the Police.
The public domain isn't the problem, its me calling him a numpty, which is potentally liablous, and which the police have made an operational stance that they cannot be seen to support, so unless the offence is very serious they will therefore put markers on, but not follow up on with the letter/prosection at that time.
I understand this from an operational point of view, and feel that whilst I might not like the decision, I respect it.

This is getting serious...

Brave: yes, and he'd most likely lose
Tiswas: I'm not going to pretend to like it, and yes its stupid, but I have got some guideance from them, which should help other people put up videos that will get prosections (which is what the roadsafe campaign is about) that I'll post up later once I'm not posting from a training room...

Report it. Anyone looking to cross the road would have checked right, seen it was clear, and been wiped out by a driver carrying out a stupid, reckless, and pointless bit of driving on the wrong side of the road, at speed, simply to join a queue of traffic.
