• Was coming out the scrapyard (cycle there for seatbelt etc), pause to check bag, give way to a van pulling a trailer. See the driver, he’s steering with the back of his hands, because he has not one but two phones, one in each hand. Not sure if I was shocked or impressed.

  • I like how the article tries to play down how appalling that driver's driving was. Those yellow lines are their for a reason, he undertook at speed and then crashed. Might look cool but as in all cases of bad driving on our roads, you are never just endangering yourself.

  • Doesn't quite look real to me: The POV camera doesn't appear to slow down and they continue to go round the roundabout and carry on.
    Wouldn't you stop?

  • Wouldn't you stop?

Would've created more risk to stop I'd have thought - cars coming up behind at speed.

  • cars coming up behind at speed.

You'd hope not, seeing as there's a roundabout there.....

    Oh

  • There is something fishy about it. Strangely lucky to avoid the signposts, not sure what those roundabout sides are made of but I would expect a gouge or at least more marks from the impact.

Also the speed of the film has been messed with.

  • Yeah, it all looks really odd, the dash cam driver appears to be going really fast

Folks - if you're cycling in SE London (specifically Dulwich, Loughborough Jct, Crystal Palace, Penge) watch out for this one. He has now stopped to confront / threaten me twice in the past 7 days in different places because I have somehow displeased him. He is a very angry man and frankly I'm looking for a different route to work because I'm scared he'll do something really stupid if he sees me again.

I'll be reporting to the police asap and I have footage (front and rear) of both incidents which nicely capture his gammony face.

  • I have footage

    Do share

  • They're designed like that so maintain access for emergency vehicles. All it takes is one knobhead to show the others and they're all doing it, at speed.

Edit: waaaaaay to late to this party

  • So fucking sick of incidents with buses- two proper scary incidents in two days, about which I could have done very little. On the verge of buying a handlebar-cam.

First incident was yesterday lunchtime between Tooting Broadway and Streatham. I was in primary between two pinch points, completely by the book, and the bus driver completely misjudged the opportunity to overtake (there wasn't one). He was right alongside me as we reached the second pinch point and decided he had to swing in anyway, and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid being flattened. Driver was apologetic - he knew what he'd done, so I didn't stick around.

Secondly at Oval this morning - coming from Brixton into the CS7, at that right turn bit. I'm rolling along in the blue paint and the bus comes from behind me and drifts over so his nearside wheels are a metre or so in the paint too, far too close to me. I'm yelling 'FUCK FUCK FUCK', and there's a passenger standing near the back door of the bus looking at me with a sort of glazed expression. Worst bit was when I pulled alongside at the next stop to remonstrate with the driver he seemed to have no idea it had happened. "You nearly killed me back there" "Back where?" "That right turn - you drifted right into the blue paint" "Oh right". Fuck's sake.

  • Can you report cyclists on roadsafe and is it worth it?

I'm fed up of people flying through the red on Camden road at the big junction where Hillmarton Road joins. You often don't see them until they appear from behind the stopped traffic, causing you to brake to avoid them.

I've got footage but not sure anything can be done about it.

  • Of course nothing can be done about it.

If this is your primary concern after cycling in London, I have concerns.

Make a youtube if you really fancy demonising bicycles, call yourself something provocative, cabbie666 or such.

  • :)

    It's not. It's just frustrating.

That YouTube idea sounds like a winner though!

  • If only they had number plates !

  • That's why I watch Moto GP over F1 these days ;)

  • Anyone help me grab this numberplate so i can report? Outrageous running of a red light. Can send the video directly if you've got MI5 skillz.

  • Nice wide line, good visibility from there, no effort to slow down whatsoever and doesn’t look like he’s got any lights on, maybe 5-0 or similar biker

  • a question for folks with experience of getting CCTV footage from bus companies:

a work colleague of mine was left hooked by another vehicle right in front of a number 21 bus, the bus driver at the time (the only witness) said that she should be able to get good CCTV of the incident.

after she contacted the bus company (london central bus company) they're saying that they won't provide her with the footage - that it can only be obtained if the police request it 'due to data protection'. at the time of the incident, the police were called but didn't show up, so my colleague has a police ref number but little else.

my understanding was that if you describe the circumstances in relation to the footage you're requesting and they can identify you in the footage after review, they will release the video to you - because you are in it. the bus company saying that only police officers can obtain video footage from the bus companies seems odd to me..?

  • I requested an obtained bus CCTV footage from Arriva in the past month. They emailed me a zip file with MP4 files from each camera of the bus that showed footage containing me.

It's called a "subject access request" and they have to provide the footage to you in line with GDPR rules. This is what my email to Arriva said:

"In with regards to my below report to TFL regarding dangerous driving by one of your bus drivers I would like to request the CCTV footage containing myself on my Brompton folding bike from the number [XXX] bus [NUMBERPLATE] as it was travelling towards [FINAL DESTINATION] on [ROAD NAME] on [DATE} between approximately [ENTER TIME FROM AND TO]."

I was sent CCTV footage within a fortnight, I had to email them photo ID.

  • Sounds like bollocks to me. I guess the only argument against is that it identifies another individual and obviously they won't have consented to the release but I'd say it's reasonable to provide without their consent.

There's a template here for requesting the info https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/your-right-of-access/

  • If they has asked for it explicitly stating it is for identifying another person then I believe they are correct as the footage would be personal information. Have they tried just requesting all the footage of them in it?

  • thanks all, i think i get it now... so if it was just my colleague in the footage they would release it - but in this instance, as there is another road user also identifiable in the footage, it becomes more difficult?

the operator was just on the phone to her now saying they've found the footage and it's obvious to them the vehicle was being driven dangerously - but they've said she ought to go and see the police to 1) make a full report 2) fill out some kind of form so the police can release the footage from the bus operator.

    what a pickle.

  • I have reported an incident to my local police force who are asking for my footage so they can issue a warning letter to the registered keeper. In the footage there is some swearing directed at me to which I respond to in kind....with a bit of goading chucked in for good measure...This is gonna look bad, right - shall I just drop it?
