  • That Jeremy Vine driver's been charged:

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/driver-charged-over-road-rage-clash-with-jeremy-vine-a3367931.html

Pearson, a student, of Vauxhall, was charged on Tuesday with driving without reasonable consideration to other road users, failing to licence a vehicle and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

  • And to think motorists who have done worse to cyclists get off with a smack on the wrists.

  • Is 'failing to licence a vehicle' not paying road tax?

    Sweet fucking irony, that.

  • I don't understand that bit.

  • Yep!

It just gets better and better!

  • Presumably related to how some motorists will complain that cyclists use roads but don't pay road tax. But it's not ironic unless she made a similar complaint.

  • No, I mean the charge. I know there's the scam, of not bothering to change the registered keeper, I don't see how it couldn't also be driving without insurance cos it's not straightforward to insure a car you don't own.

  • Named driver, insured on another vehicle (and get third party cover on other vehicles), etc.

But what makes you think she doesn't own the vehicle? I can't see anything in the article to suggest she doesn't.

  • She's being charged with failing to license a vehicle, I assumed it was the one she was driving. So if she's the keeper of that car but it wasn't licensed I don't get how it could be covered.

  • You only need insurance/MOT/etc at the time you buy the VED.

Not everything has to run on the same 12 month cycle. She could have switched insurers to a different provider part way through the year. She could have last bought VED for 6 months rather than a year, and it had expired. She could have paid by Direct Debit but the recent payments didn't go through, etc.

  • 22, that must have been a big paper-round.

    better

  • have.

  • From a point of nothing :

You need an mot and insurance to initially tax a vehicle (ved).

you don't need insurance or road tax (zed) to initially mot a vehicle.

You don't need an mot or road tax (ved) to initially insure a vehicle.

It is possible to buy six months road tax (ved) and then buy twelve months when the six months expire. There are benefits to this.

    • ved vehicle excise duty

    Sorry if I missed something.

  • Sorry if I missed something.

There's no such thing as 'road tax'. :)

  • Okay vehicle excise duty. Pardon me for falling into the colloquial term trap.

  • At the time this incident happened, someone on here did a search for the car and found it had a current MOT but no current VED.

  • It was once the case that there were a few days 'grace' between a ved expiring and a new one being applied for.

  • Quick reply from John Lewis!

  • The number of RTs and argument I've had coming in on my twitter feed over the last couple of days is bonkers. Don't think I'm going to keep uploading this stuff - not sure it achieved much.

  • Don't think I'm going to keep uploading this stuff - not sure it achieved much.

Of course it has if JL has replied and working on it no?

  • They just said they can't see the registration number. So won't be doing anything about it. Someone did reply with a close-up screenshot where you can see it, but I doubt they saw it amongst the fuss on Twitter.

  • I call bullshit because you can pinpoint the exact location and time this van is delivering.

  • But you're talking to some social media guy at John Lewis; why should he care?
