• ouch.

  • Link to something any cyclist can relate to after suffering the cut-ups and passes of outrageous drivers.

  • Chased down a driver earlier. He cut me up bad on a roundabout totally unnecessarily. Nearly went into the side of him to avoid him going into me, had anticipated it and avoided it with a small skid.

Caught up and followed him through the side streets and pulled in front of him. It was an oldboy who could barely see over the steering wheel.

After he finally wound down his window I tried not to shout too angrily, but made a point to ask if he knew how to give way, he didn't understand me. I kept repeating and started saying about stopping at a roundabout, he was saying "sorry, sorry, I didn't see you" and as a crowd was gathering I tempered a little, "you didn't see me? with bright neon green trainers and waving my arms in the air??"

I implored him to actually stop at roundabouts or else it's his car that will get damaged when he hits someone, he seemed totally unfazed.

  • Interesting scheme. Anyone know what evidence exactly the police are going to rely on when prosecuting offending drivers? Camera, sensor, police officer witnessing?

  • Rather than relying on an officer up the road they could put the cycling officer on an unrestricted electric bike, with hidden blue flashing lights and siren.

World be an ace sight to see a white van getting pulled over by a MTB that had chased it down at 50mph :-)

  • That haircut's very right wing, they love their partings .

  • Classic pervert's glasses too. Those photochromic ones, the mark of the total wrong 'un.

  • Look out, he set a petition up yesterday:

We, the undersigned, call on British parliment and its members to make it compulsary for bycycles used on public highways (roads) . To have insurance to cover damages and injury to 3rd parties and the property thereof. In addition, to make it compulsary to have an identification plate clearly visible and displayed on bycycles in order that they and the rider can be traced and prosecuted where appropriate.

  • Oh, that was 3 years ago, soz.

  • I still can't believe that such a strong and eloquent case wasn't immediately met with some changes to bylaws pertaining to bycycles.

  • Anybody know if it's worth handing images of people using phones whilst driving to the police? Can they prosecute or is it only if they are seen by the police themselves?

  • This could be the new Pokémon Go.

  • I reckon I'd get at least 10 every commute. Easily.

  • Anybody know if it's worth handing images of people using phones whilst driving to the police? Can they prosecute or is it only if they are seen by the police themselves?

I doubt they can prosecute based on a single photo. It doesn't conclusively demonstrate use so could be easily challenged.

The Police can issue a fine on the spot because they get to be an expert in deciding whether what the driver is doing is distracting or not.

    "
You can use hands-free phones, sat navs and 2-way radios when you’re driving or riding. But if the police think you’re distracted and not in control of your vehicle you could still get stopped and penalised.

As for the first question, it might be a good idea in the light of the recent news articles and pushes to clamp down on it more. If the Police get more and more reports of people doing it they may decide that there's some merit in actually doing some enforcement.

  • But isn't it illegal to use a hand held phone, rather than to be out of control due to using a hand held phone? The differentiation seems foolish. 99% of the time an individual could be in control whilst using it. it's the very generous 1% of the time that causes the accident. So why not a blanket penalty to make having your phone in your hand/lap less attractive?

  • I don't bother getting my phone out to film people, but have a Fly 6 and Fly 12, so I am always filming just in case (I don't chase Youtube likes because somebody does something daft, but always have them to protect myself in case of an accident). Would they be able to do anything with video evidence rather than stills?

  • That's exactly my thinking, if you could suddenly get 100+ people done in one day from people reporting them, it would send out a more powerful message than 'if the police see you, expect punishment', instead it would be 'if anybody see's you, expect punishment'

  • Make it a "day" thing on Facebook or something. Film a cunt driving on their phone day, and send them all in en mass.

  • Like 'cycle to work day'?!

  • "Snap a Twat day"

  • Now the fine is £200 po po could pay a tenner for every one someone sends in. My office is on a busy, slow A road, I reckon I'd easily catch 50-100 people a day.

  • They'd go bust paying out.

  • Or generally people driving with no hands... almost got hit by a woman (nothing against the gender as being a woman myself!) who was too busy looking into the mirror playing with her hair and forgot the steering wheel is there for her to keep her car in a straight line.

I gave her a "I am going to kill you" stare, then she gave me that "Oh shit, can people actually see what I am doing?" look.
