• The sun was in the sky your honour

Well, this is Edinburgh we're talking about. It's a rare occurrence.

  • It's quite nice up here today. I ate lunch outside.

  • I was in primary in left lane on the OKR heading south, with a nice tailwind so holding (according to Strava) a pretty steady 26mph. I had a white van first of all drive right up behind me, then pass me with inches to spare, despite the entire right hand lane being empty.

Caught him up at the next set of lights and asked the driver wtf he was playing at. Apparently, I should be by the kerb. Despite trying to calmly explain why I wasn't there (potholes, drains, puddles, the fact I was doing only 4mph below the speed limit) and asking why he didn't overtake me in the other lane with plenty of room, he responded with - 'Ride there if you want to die, it's your choice'. That's when I lost my temper a bit.

I explained in no uncertain terms that in fact, it was HIS choice whether I die. That he had the choice to not tailgate me, to not pass me with literally inches between us and also had the choice to use the other fucking lane. And that if he wasn't able to understand that and refrain from driving like a dick, he was a fucking moron who shouldn't be behind the wheel.

I didn't get his reg, but I really need to sort out a camera. I bought one to mount under the bars, but it makes my Garmin go nuts...

  • I had a lovely one yesterday. Just going back up Crystal Palace Park Road after a Kentish spin, and some twonk turning right out of Thicket Road has parked himself in the middle of the road, trying to force his way into stationary traffic going downhill. Several cars beeping at him, etc. As I pass, his window is down and he's got his phone held up to his face, talking away. I shout, as I often do "Get off the fucking phone".
Carry on up the hill, and hear a screeching of tyres and loud acceleration behind me. The bloke did a U-turn and the next thing I know his car is coming up behind me very fast, very close. Honestly thought he was going to rear-end me. Instead, he brakes hard alongside me, pulling into the kerb as he does. I'm anticipating this too, so manage to stop before I hit him/he hits me.
Cue the shouting - from him - "MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS, WHAT THE FUCK IS IT TO YOU" etc.
I shout back, at first, telling him he's fucking dangerous and has just become even more so by trying to kill me with his car.
He carries on shouting that it's none of my business, saying he wants to get out and punch me.
I regain composure and ask him repeatedly to calm down. He keeps telling me it's none of my business, and oddly keeps asking me "what if I got out and punched you in the face?". Obviously, big man that he is, he never actually gets out. I keep asking him to calm down, he keeps telling me to fuck off, I wish him a good day and he threatens me some more for talking to him.
He drives off, doing another U turn into yet more traffic.
    Dude has anger problems.

No evidence sadly, but I noticed when he did his window up that he was waaay tinted on driver and passenger side, which is illegal. Worth reporting him for that, at least?

  • I'd have got off my bike and saw if he had the balls to get out or at least scratch his car, not on purpose obviously ;)

  • I'm not going to come out well in a fight at the best of times to be honest - a skinny 6'1" and 70kg on a good day, and most of that's thigh. When I'm wearing road shoes, no fucking way. And his rage was apocalyptic.
I do think instances like this are somewhat symptomatic of a certain type of person - they've got their shiny car, it's their zone of protection, fuck anyone else outside of it. That, and the mentality that anyone not in a car must be inferior because why wouldn't you drive your stupid blacked out german whip everywhere, right?

  • Don't you know who he is?

  • [re transit driver] Horrible stuff, Ed but black drivers in Leyton equally don't fuck.

  • owl
Some fantastic, heartfelt-if-unimaginative swearing. Not a single bellwhiff or belm, but you can't deny the emotion.

This has got to be shown to drivers. With some sort of caption questioning pointing out/asking how you'd feel being on a bike and dealing with these human errors?

  • he never actually gets out.

they never do. needledicks to a man.

  • Ronnie Pickering!

  • WONNIE PICKERWING!

  • Still no news from the police in regard to this, insufficient evidences for the assault.

  • The must be so distressing, man. Sorry.

  • Don't have the pleasure of a cycling commute,
    (work from home),
    but,
yesterday had a small cheque to pay in, and the closest branch of my bank
is a 17 mile round trip, which exceeds a nominal lunchhour by only a little.

Return leg approaching a traffic light controlled left turn,
woman in a small Honda turns left against me,
she never got far enough ahead of me to turn across me.
Front wheel leaves glancing dent on her passenger side door,
I'm braking, but as she now steers away from me, I go down,
but front of right shoulder destroys mechanical mount of wing mirror,
leaving it dangling on electrical cables,
allowing me not to fall onto the road.

Traffic held up as I take photos.

Driver claims she was indicating, which is irrelevant as until she turned against me she was never in front of me. She cannot confirm her insurance details,
and begins to phone her husband.

No visible damage to the bike,
(shower later that evening reveals my wounds are:
graze on shoulder, lower front of tricep, and on outer lower leg below the calf muscle).

    Worth reporting to Road Safe?

  • lawyer up and claim for damages

  • Make a police report too.

  • There was contact - Roadsafe will tell you to file a police report.

Make yourself familiar with the "What to do in case of an accident" thread.

It doesn't matter if she does not know her insurance details, if she provides you with her contact details.

  • She cannot confirm her insurance details, and begins to phone her husband.

I had this exact same thing, so I phoned the old bill. Bit late now.
