Please report dangerous drivers to the police - Roadsafe. Report to plod, not just whinge here.

Just now I've had an email from the policeman saying that the driver DID report the collision but is not accepting dangerous driving.

I guess...so what? What was their next action? Two offences seem to have been committed - driving without due care and leaving the scene of a collision. Have the Police recognised this? They need to. If they haven't made it clear what they intend to now do, you need to find out, and get them going in the right direction.

Without reading this entire thread, what are my options?

You don't have any 'options' as such -

• go to A&E and get checked out
  
• get an estimate for repair to bike and clothes
  
• get a solicitor on the case - are you a member of BC, CTC etc? There are special arrangements
  
• continually badger the police into doing their job
  
• continually badger the solicitor (legal exec) into doing their job
  
• regularly lose faith and patience in it all
  

So she turned right from the opposite lane and what then, did you hit the side of her car? I've had a very close miss like that, my guess was the driver under-estimated the speed I was going and assumed they could complete the manoeuvre before I get there.

Leaving the scene I would assume would be the biggest thing, difficult to prove dangerous driving, a charge of driving without due care would be more likely to stick.

That's exactly what happened @Jimmy_Fingers. She made the slowest latest turn ever. I guess she underestimated my speed (it was slightly downhill) and the road was wet. My rear wheel wet and I slid under the car.

Sounds like a pretty extreme incident to simply drive away from, a cyclist actually under the car. That as ever is the angle the police will take the most interest in.

Just got an email from a police to say they will do some free advertising for my youtube channel and post video links to a driver along with some reading material, no mention of charging them a fee but it should hopefully make them think twice.

not sure, I asked for it in my email though just in case they don't keep it for long..

i should have looked but I was so angry that I don't seem to have been thinking very quickly, would have taken a photo on my phone but, it was at the bottom of a bungied up rack bag, i was wearing thick gloves etc etc so hopefully, time + route + license plate should be enough.

you are prob right about the database/lack of follow up but for what it's worth I did ask for a response in my email and i have a ref no. i can chase up.

Thanks guys. I'll be Ok. Just had an email from the policeman. Apparently she is denying driving without due care and attention. Plus her witness is her passenger and friend. LOLOLOL.

Can anyone point me towards that decent solicitor I vaguely remember being mentioned somewhere on here? Much appreciated. XXX

Regardless of the excuse for not seeing you the fact that she stopped at all means she must be aware she hit you and so leaving without exchanging details is the crime you should push for. Hit and run is taken pretty seriously and even if her witness backs up her version of the collision there can be no excuse for not stopping. Good luck, hope you get a result, heal up fast.

The ambiguous wording of that rule makes it completely worthless. If the authors of the highway code actually meant 'a car's width', that's probably what they'd have written.

Meh - Using the highway code as canon is daft in any case. At best it's a reference to the relevant legislation, more often than not it's an arbitrary guide that can and is ignored.

Case law's better, within which a cyclist's right to "wobble room" is enshrined.
