• Ok update to this: she got 1 year ban to run on top of her already 1 year disqualification, 5 penalty points to be added once she gets licence back and £1300 in fine and costs - they were pretty hardcore on her given some of the sentences out there.
I got £300 compo to cover the bits and bobs that I had to fix at the time - so took a while but good result in the end and as long as your witness statement and your statement are good the CPS do like to push it to court.

    Happy Tuesday folks

Glad to hear it, don't know your circumstances but good to hear there is some stick in the system.

  • ha! Did she react in court?

  • This morning crossing over Holloway road via the ASL in Drayton Park road over to Palmer place I was deliberately driven at and into by a lady who was 1) late for work 2) didn't see me 3) we were all in the way (15+ cyclists) waiting in the ASL for lights to change 4) we should be on the left 5) and the best "it wasn't deliberate but you were in my way!!" - these are just some of the excuses she gave.

Usually i take these with a pinch of salt, but only my bike handling stopped me going under the car, I felt a weird sensation on my back wheel (thought is was gravel etc) but no it was a car, i bunny hopped across to the left to get out her way as she sped through the lights and nearly hit a car head on!

She only stopped when she was pulled up by other cyclists and car drivers, who all told me she deliberately aimed at me and then soon as she hit me panicked and tried to flee the scene but was stopped by crossing traffic at a set of light further up the road.

I 'discussed' with her why she felt it was perfectly acceptable to try mowing me down because of the above excuses, which i get told to 'f' off. Luckily i got a fair few witnesses both cyclists and car drivers, and have reported it to the police (101) who where very helpful but also told me to get a 'fail to stop at the scene of an accident' form, as this was a hit and run and the amount of CCTV there and witnesses should back up my complaint.

The most frighting thing was her attitude in the face of all that evidence confirming what she had done, denial then total 'so what' - even if she just get a visit from the police and a telling off maybe that will make her think about her actions.

Anyway at least it's Friday every cloud and all that, I'd say stay safe, but well this is London, so stay alert and don't let the feckers have an inch!!

a follow up to this was it?
+1 to happy tues for u

  • Fine work man!

  • Cheers mands - it was indeed that incident. To be frank she tried every excuse in the book 'i was not in the left of the ASL' ' I wasn't on the left cycling' unfortunately Crown Prosecutor had a copy of the highway code read out the guidance, pointed out i had right of way on both situations and that was that.

Only after did I discover she was already banned for other road offences - so all good in the end.

  • ha! Did she react in court?

face like a slapped arse - and shouted 'well done' at the witness and I - all i did was report her bad driving, she was daft enough to drive like that then also defend herself against a crown prosecutor - got everything she deserves by sounds of it.

She did try the I'm a single mother etc didnt wash with anyone

  • She sounds monstrous o.O

  • So she managed to get herself banned between the incident with you and it coming to court, or was she driving while disqualified?

Also, could they or did they require her to retake a driving test at the end of the ban? Having shown in court that she has as little knowledge of the highway code as she has regard for other road users, that might have an effect on her future driving.

From the sounds of it I think she managed to get herself banned between the incident with me and coming to court. So what on earth possessed her to fight the charge when already banned for a driving offence i'll never know - she could of admitted guilt and saved a lot of time and money on her part - though she wasn't brightest.

I gather she already has a driver awareness / new test from the previous ban so this will should enforce it even more (I could be wrong) - though her insurance premiums will be astronomical now 2 bans and 5 points when you do get your license back - hardly worth driving.

  • assuming she stays off the road during her ban. insurance or no.

  • 2 bans and 5 points won't keep her off, especially when there's a driver with 45 points on his license and still drive.

The worst thing is, there's no limit to how many points you can receive, apparently.

Maybe it's time to look at the Canadian's driving law (life imprisonment if convicted of killing someone with a vehicle).

  • Nearly half the drivers on more than 12 points are still on the road.

  • They'll be late for dinner.

  • In my many thousands of miles of riding, I have (luckily, I suppose) only been subject to one unfortunate bout of bike/vehicle interface. This was admittedly serious, but happened long enough ago now that the details have become hazy.
I was out riding today, and for the first time since then (about four years) genuinely feared for my safety at the hands of another road user. And, hilariously, it was a van being operated by the same company. I completely failed to get the reg because I was busy doing everything I could to get out of the way, but would just like to express my feeling (based, admittedly on a very small sample and clouded by 2+ months of being unable to eat solid food) that Pilon Ltd employ chimps to get their vans from A to B.

  • Christ. Glad you escaped this time at least :/

  • You could ID the driver based on the company and their time and place details. Send them a letter or call and you might get a cooperative owner on the case? Or molitov their offices*.

    *not sure if legalz

  • 1+ hippy suggestion, it's not hard for a company to pinpoint who they send at that time and location.

  • When misspelt you can get away with it, I believe the petrol bomb is aka a Molotov cocktail.

  • Nah, happy to leave it be. Hopefully that's it for the next four years, and the next one will be even less serious. Was just astounded it was the same outfit and thought it worthy of internet moaning.

  • Surely it would be worthwhile to inform the company of poor driving? who know the next individual may not be so lucky when come in contact with the same driver.

The next cyclist or pedestrian might not be so lucky.

    Report them.

Yeah, that looks moar write to me.

  • Where and what time was this? I had a van driver nearly take me out yesterday too, near London bridge in the morning. Didn't catch any details for the same reasons, evasive actions.
