• If you'd hit him, he'd be off to hospital and claiming for loss of earnings.

They're cunts, the lot of 'em.

  • Wheels are CXP33s on Phil Wood hubs. Non-bike-people refuse to believe a rear wheel can cost £200, but it can, and he just balanced half a taxi on one.

  • While all the revenge via TfL and the police would be great - you know nothing is going to happen.

The most important thing is to get you back up and running with a perfect wheel.
Since there was a collision - did you exchange insurance details?
    (Or rather - get his.)
Contact his insurance and explain what happened asap.

He rolled into you - and admitted it on video.
    100% his fault.
His opinion on your wheel is irrelevant.
Explain to the insurance company that you need to take it to a proper shop and get it fixed. It isn't safe right now.
Explain that if you fall off with a dodgy wheel the insurance company would be liable and it is obviously in their best interest to get you a gold plated phil woods hubbed diamond spokey dokey encrusted fully functional wheel ASAP.

Then mention your neck is hurting pretty bad too...

  • I don't have his insurance details, sadly. I only got his name and phone number on the scene. Wasn't thinking straight enough to check what he gave me. How can I get his insurance details?

  • You get his address, and let him find his own insurance details.

  • or you can go to the motor insurers bureau website, pay £4 and type in the vehicle registration plate - it will tell you the name of the insurance company and you ring them and tell them there has been an accident, get a claim number and then direct them to the video (plus the sensible comments others have made here)

  • "I only rolled into you". Yeah, but if you try and mount a bike wheel with a ton and a half of taxi it's going to cause damage whatever the speed. Get a quote from a bike shop, give him a call, tell him the cost of repair and ask for his insurance details so you can claim.

  • So it turns out that the number he gave me isn't real. Also there's no address. Taxi office won't accept a complaint against him, they tell me, as they have no power to punish. Jokes.

  • Sparky: you must go to the police today then. Failing to report an accident is a crime, as is giving false details. The second is taken very seriously.

You need to report it within 24 hours for them to be able to take action.

  • Also, are you a member of LCC or British Cycling or CTC?

You can get in touch with their insurance people if you are, and they will do the hunting him and his address for a insurance claim, which with the video you've got shouldn't be a problem :)

Also, insurance companies tend to frown on people giving wrong details, so may cancel his insurance because of it, which would mean that he'd have to declare it on any future policies he tries to take out...

    vindictive? moi? :)

  • Go now! You've got the video evidence and this guy is a Grade A CUNT.

  • ^,^^, and ^^^ this

  • Hopefully even london's finest can bother their arses for the giving incorrect details.

  • I cannot watch the video at work, does it capture him giving undisputably false details?

  • The video shows the driver writing down his details. Falsely.

  • Sounds like a winner then- now the challenge is getting a copper to actually talk to you about it.

  • For reference and safekeeping, these are the details he gave me: http://imgur.com/nVIMC

  • That's bad luck, Sparky. Weren't you hit from behind just recently in another incident? Giving false details is taking the piss. Annoying to have to deal with this--hope you get it sorted out soon. Was the number he gave you not the same as the one on his taxi?

  • Hang on, you have the reg number, the cab number and video of the driver admitting the offence and the PCO can't act? What is their excuse?

  • Go here: https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/contact/pco/
    Fill in the form.

That is how you complain about black cabs.
I don't know what number you called or what sort of cretin you spoke to but as usual they were full of shit.

    However - nothing will happen.

Contact the police - report the collision.
If he doesn't report it within 24 hours of it happening then that is really bad news for him - up to ten points and disqualification potentially IIRC.

He won't report it because he thinks giving his details to you will have exempted him from reporting and you will do nothing.

However, just my opinion, but by giving false details he hasn't really done what he is supposed to hence it is as bad as a standard "failure to report".

Sparky - I think you have everything you need to see that this fucking cretin is taken off the road. But it will require effort.
I think you have to go in person to a police station to report it.
They will probably try to fob you off.
    DON'T LET THEM.

  • This is what the PCO said:

    Dear Mr Sparkes,

    Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that London Taxi & Private Hire (LTPH) deal with complaints about taxi and private hire drivers. The complaints we investigate and deal with are those regarding a driver's conduct which breaches existing licensing and Hackney Carriage laws (eg, physical or verbal abuse).

Whilst we do make drivers aware when we receive complaints regarding their standard of driving, we have no legislative power to investigate road traffic complaints. Although we can send a data-protected copy of your complaint to the driver with a letter reminding him of his responsibility to drive safely at all times, we cannot investigate the matter and consider possible suspension or revocation of his licence on the basis of these complaints.

However, if the police investigate this matter and this results in the driver being convicted of driving without due care and attention, such convictions would be brought to our attention. At this point, it is highly likely that the Licensing Authority will review his fitness to practice.

I hope that this answers your queries and thank you again for your correspondence.

    Yours sincerely,

    Claire Alabdalla

  • I'm going to the cop shop on the way to work. I need to report him for giving incorrect details, right? Any other tips?

  • That's bad luck, Sparky. Weren't you hit from behind just recently in another incident? Giving false details is taking the piss. Annoying to have to deal with this--hope you get it sorted out soon. Was the number he gave you not the same as the one on his taxi?

In the last six months I've been hit from begin on two other occasions. One where I had a photograph of the van, and the police did nothing, and one where I was standing on the side of the road with the van driver admitting fault to two coppers, and the police did nothing.

  • Report the incident too. You have him on video admitting careless driving (at least)

  • Just tell the rozzers everything you know about the incident and what has happened subsequently. Take all the evidence you can and ask them what they are going to do about it and when they are likely to take any action.
