• Can you piss on them though?

  • Watersports are always an option.

    (PM'd)

  • idiot drivers on the warpath this morning,

twice i had people a fair bit behind me in the next lane, look back to pull into the lane, safe, start crossing to have the person behind slam on there gas in some sort of road rage to bulldoze me out the way

  • This morning a driver behind toots me pointing at the ASL clearly upset as to why I wasn't in it*. I mouth "what" and he pulls up alongside me into the right turn only lane drops his window and says "why aren't you in there, it's for you?" I say "why should I I'll only hold her up and then you because she is faster than me and that lane is for right turn only". He kisses his teeth and puts the window back up .

Lights change to green she whizzes off and he turns left without indication cutting up a car that pulled into the gap he moved from.

*There was a motorcycle in front positioned half in half out of the ASL going the same way and I tend not push in front of motorcyclists as they pull off a lot faster than I do.

  • Slightly off topic but I was behind a Murphy 'dumper truck' with a grab (whatever you call them) this morning and I stopped behind it at the lights. I noticed that it has a rear facing camera.

Does anyone know if this is hooked up to a monitor in the cab or is it an 'insurance' thing to show what happened when somethign happens?

The left turning Murphy driver didn't do anything wrong (in fact he did everything right) although the guy next to him did try to move into my lane run me over and jump a red light all at once. Twat

  • Sounds like one of the "side scan" devices that the newer Murphy trucks are equipped with.

  • They are a reversing camera.

  • They are a reversing camera.

Ahh thanks. It was a bit pointless me waving at it then.

  • Unless he was reversing over you and you wanted to say goodbye.

  • As a 180 to this thread...

Yesterday on the way home down Gt Eastern St. I rock up at a red light and the driver stopped next to me calls out. Expecting the worst I say hello through his open window. Turns out he'd been clocking my speed whilst driving behind me, and proceeded to ask the fastest I'd ever been, talk about how Olympians had been training around where he lives, and a century he'd done in Sweden.

Lights hit green and we both went on our way. Totally unexpected. I had a smile on my face all the way home.

  • I stopped beside a concrete lorry today and I could see a screen near his rearview mirror that was connected to a rear-facing camera. Seemed to be on all the time. Pretty cool.

  • They can be if you want or turned on when engaging the reverse gears. My old man drove lorries so I pretend to have authority on this subject

  • i thought you didn't know who your dad was...

mind odds are one of the possibles could have been a truck driver so maybe.

  • Just because your dad is on the tellybox and can build a house out of shit better than MacGuyver doesn't make you winner of dad wars

  • It does really

  • It probably makes up for the years of abuse to.

  • HB's dad is Kevin McCloud?

  • Nah - Tommy Walsh.

  • v. close call to the reaper on commute to work this morning – still shaking now to be honest.

I was waiting at a red light circa 7am,(full green man flashing) enjoying the fresh morning air…a couple of cars at the perpendicular junction (i.e. to my right) idling waiting for their light. I get the green light and pull away…hear a massive revving to my right…look right and see some lowered, black hatch-back boy racery type sh!tbox, flying towards me at (I’m guessing here) but what felt be close to 50mph. I slam on my brakes as if I keep going I am dead…flip the handlebars, sprawl the pavement…car flies past (what felt like about 2 feet in front of me) and off into the distance…I looked up to get a plate but no luck. This guy ran a straight red at high speed…there was no amber coming or going…jesus I still feel sick. Really can’t be arsed with work now.

What almost annoyed me more than the prick who effectively tried to murder me is the way all the cars waiting at the lights nonchalantly drive off as though nothing whatsoever happed.

No injuries to me…but I have bent my rear mech hanger and will now have to pull 107 gear inches home. Annoyingly I took my road bike into work as I was gonna go for a nice long cycle this afternoon…day effectively runined before its even begun.

I’m gonna check on the way home to see if there is any CCTV in this area…if there is is there any way to move forward with this???

Also as a sidenote…the reason I pulled the brakes was that I “heard” this car. Glad I never have and still don’t and never will cycle with headphones.

  • Fuuuuuck that. I'd sack work off and go for a drink

  • i wish i could...will definitely be having an early finish and a drink or 12 this arvo...

  • On the CCTV issue, you're legally entitled to claim a copy of any video that catches a glimpse of your ugly mug. The relevant chunk of law is the Data Protection Act, and the Information Commissioner's Office has an informative piece on it here: http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/cctv.aspx

Making a request is basically as simple as writing a letter/email and making sure that you mention all the right things. There are lots of template letters online.

Make sure you post it here if you get it - it sounds exciting. Seriously though, have a cuppa with a few sugars and try to relax.

  • cheers Sparky

I'll have a looksee at the intersection on the way home. Will let ya'll know if I have any luck. As an aside, right near my work (in Canning town which is not a part of London I enjoy - major shitehole)...a car had launched itself/been launched off an overpass (A13 I think) onto a slip-road below, multiple fire engines/ambulances in attendance. Sunday mornings eh. Methinks empty roads make people think they are on a closed race track or something. Stay safe out there.

  • What a frightening thing to happen. Glad you weren't hit. Yes, low-traffic conditions aren't necessarily safer than high-traffic conditions.

  • Also, did you manage to see what type of car it was? Perhaps there aren't too many of this type around and the police might be able to trace it without a number plate.
