• Can you be sacked for that! I guess only the obscene gesture could be proven. I suppose they could invoke "Bringing the company into disrepute" that got my mate sacked after he brawled with his ex-girlfriend at his firm's Christmas do.

  • There's cctv on the bus, he's at least going to have a tough couple of days.

  • I know that guy, or at least I used to drink with him in the earl Beatty pub in motspur park.

I have no sympathy for him but I can tell you that I doubt his life will get any more shitty than it already is!

  • So, a cyclist, not a driver, but as dangerous as they get.

At around 9 this morning I was waiting at the lights on the Railton Rd/Coldharbour Lane in front of the red star (I think) pub. Was coming from herne hill going towards Brixton rd.

Was not first at the lights, couple of cyclists ahead of me, and when the light went green headed off at decent speed and picking up more. For those who know the place it's always busy with food delivery vans, market sellers crossing the road etc so not too much space. When I cleared a couple of riders I heard someone coming from behind at speed (rolling on as light turned green I guess) and attempting (closely I'd say) to overtake. I was still picking up speed and he didn't judge this well so when he tried to swerve to his left and in front of me I was almost side by side. At this stage he must have gotten a shock and shouted and pushed me while riding. I freaked out a bit but said nothing and tried to keep balance and line but he shouts again and pushes me harder to the left but I still keep my line and start slowing down as I realise the man won't let go. So next second the man lets go off his bars and grabs my backpack and drags us both on to the tarmac, I kid you not.

I'm obviously in proper fight mode and get up quickly expecting him to have a go. It turns out that Mr Arsehole came off a lot worse than I did with aassive gaping cut on his forehead (maybe other injuries, not sure) and struggles to get up. When he does and I shout at him (crazy, maniac, motherfucker etc at a volume much louder than I ever thought possible) the guy seems to suggest that I nearly took him out and starts shouting too.

One of those moments when you get really close to punching someone straight in the face but I'm glad I kept my cool, was urged by the gathered crowd to leave him alone as he was bleeding badly. The moment I tell him I want his details and he can explain the incident to the cops and turned to check my bike (unhurt too, I only got a couple of scrapes) he was gone.

Full report at Brixton police station and now at A&E because the police said I should.

Oh and thanks to the guy who handed me a note with his name and number and said he witnessed the whole thing and willing to help.

Doubt he'll be found but really wish this guy gets fucked. A few cyclists there at the time, if anyone saw the incident let me know.

    Cheers.

  • Glad I live in North London. That gives me the fear.

  • Was the guy walking, whilst pushing a brake less fixie?

    ;-)

  • Not sure what this means but no, he wasn't, and he didn't ride a breakless fixie.

  • PS. The man was in his mid-thirties, shaved head, 5ft 8ish, kinda stocky build. And I'm pretty sure he had an Aussie accent but not too sure with all the adrenaline...

  • Hippy?

  • kinda stocky build.

    Hippy?

    Nope.

  • I live off Coldharour Lane and to be honest this doesn't slightly surprise me. Too many mad men on a bike round here. They are not cyclists, they are just crazy people sitting, often standing on two wheels, or one. Glad you are not that badly hurt though.

    ftfy.

I also used to live around the same area. Bad times :/

  • Today two drivers endangered my life intentionally. One was a bus driver.

  • some cunt on motorcycle told me i should be on extreme left of the bus lane ALL THE TIME, he was kind of right in the first part but all the time?! I have studied highway code enough to do 2 theory tests :P he also told me this while standing in ASL on euston road.

  • he was kind of right in the first part but all the time?!

He is not right at all.

it's riskier riding close to the kerbs, or put your faith in cycle lane.

  • I had the pleasure of riding with the embankment peleton this morning.

    JESUS F CHRIST

I need a wedge of Cycletraining cards to hand out to people.

Seriously its like fucking amateur hour.

    AVOID

If there's anything that I learn every single hour I spend on the roads, it's that stupidity and cruelty have no limits. It is literally around every single corner.

Whistle to ride another day. keep your eyes open and stay safe!

  • Ok so i walked half my journey home today as i was too fuming to cycling home

Going round old street roundabout as i do everyday, coming from old st, turning right off the roundabout into city road

In the middle lane so i can safely turn right, some idiot stops in the cycle box in the middle of middle and right hand lane, remains in this position round past the first exit to this point

In which he cuts me up to turn left, i have to swerve left a bit, in panic i just wnted to carry on on my journey so tried to right myself back on route to then have my front wheel clipped by the guy behind him also cutting me up then beeping me forcing me to be squashed between two cars in the two lanes at the exit.

just had to get off my bike and sit on the pavement for a bit, a man waiting to cross came and chatted to me for a bit and was nice and gave me his number but both of them had zoomed off before i could do anything other than call the first guy a cunt.

I hate that point because there seems to be no option other than to hope that this situation doesnt happen, the times ive rode in the right hand lane i just get beeped from behind or someone forces up the left of me and stops me turning safely right.

    raaaaaaaaa i am fuming

  • Fucking taxi driver (LT55 ZTC - taxi license 96992) tried to push me off the road several time after I knocked his wing mirror with my elbow due to him overtaking me ridiculously and dangerously close because he didn't like I being in the normal position.

by the way - picture of health, just a cut finger, fingernail scratch on my arm due to driver's heavy handling and pulled shirt.

  • Rogan - I agree. I ride Old St Roundabout North to South and vice versa, and this is generally OK. However, I started to hand out flyers for Londoners on Bikes at the Eastern and Western ends of the roundabout before the summer. I was amazed at how aggressive the drivers are coming Eastbound from the Western approach into the roundabout - it feels like they see a wide space, after the confines of Old St and "go for it". Cyclists are either made to ride like the wind away, or are given a close pass. It may be that the subsequent Traffic Light sequence encourages this behaviour (I may test that theory out when driving through there myself). Seems to me that there is a role for appropriate signs and the police being made aware of the risks (otherwise nothing will ever happen)

  • Ok so I was rising southbound down Cambridge Heath Road about 6.15pm this evening and a woman Driving northbound turns sharply in front of me without signalling. This causes me to brake heavily and crash landing about half a foot from her bumper. I get dragged from the road by passers by who filter away once they realise I don't need an ambulance. The womans excuse is 'well I didn't hit you!' my reply was 'no you're damn lucky I threw myself off my bike in time otherwise I would have gone through your windscreen! What do you think you were doing?????' no response. I took all her details but was more concerned for my bike and me. My bike apart from needing to true the front wheel was fine and I guessed as there wasn't actually a collision I couldn't report it to the police. As the night has gone on my left arm as swollen to the point where I can't bend it or put any pressure on it at all and after the initial shock found the cracked rib and patched up the cuts. As a cycle trainer this is going to leave me off the bike for at least a week depending on what the doctor says tomorrow. Should I report it? Would I have more of a leg to stand on if I hadn't havd reacted that quickly and actually hit her? It's a fine line but surely loss of earnings should factor somewhere here even if there was no collision between her and me? Advice would be great thanks.

  • report it, her poor driving caused an accident

  • report her and take legal actions. ^ James can fill you in with all the details! As thanks the the pointers from James, my case is going very smoothly, I was told...

  • Thanks guys. I've fractured my elbow and have a cracked rib. 4-6 weeks off the bike! FUCK!
