Young, fat, passenger in blue van "JFZ 8444" threw their drink at me today.
Not dangerous and I was a bit warm but could really do without it."V1 CLM" big black BMW, male driver with small penis, having a cry about me not using the cycle lane. I was doing 50kph on aerobars down towards Uxbridge and don't really want to get airborne over all the drains in the bike lane. Funny thing was I moved into the right lane to talk to this dickhead about it. That's right, he was having a cry about me not being in a cycle lane even though it's dual lane road with no other traffic around.
The vehicle details for V1 CLM are:

Someone lobbed a bottle of drink at my wife when we were cycling down Jamaica road SE1 last summer and narrowly missed her.
I was a little behind her so stopped and picked up the bottle, the car stopped at the traffic lights for the right turn to St James Road I cycled alongside and emptied the remaining contents through the open passenger window, and made polite suggestions that they not do it again.

Fantastic.
:)
I had a rant at a cyclist today. He jumped a red going in to Clapham Common, and another going out. Both times he did it in that really infuriating slow, wobbly way. Then he cycled really slowly between lights. Why RLJ if you ride slowly? I overtook and enquired whether he was colour blind.
-
• #1755
Yeah. RLJing only makes sense at speeds >30mph
-
• #1756
No, that's not what I meant.
RLJ irritates me almost every time I see it, but more so when the culprit shoots across as though they're on an urgent bloody mission, then tootles away from the scene of the crime at 12mph. If you're going to RLJ at least have the common decency to be in a fucking hurry...
I like to wait for green, overtake them and tut, then pull up at the next red, where they invariably do it again. It combines climbing onto a high horse and interval training - it's a great workout.

My technique too - I'm not going to take the bait and spiral into a bikeradar-esque anticommuternodder rage though, since I've pretty much just been riding to and from the office for the past few months, so I think that makes me a commuternodder myself :(

Roadsafe app, sounds like a great idea.

I got hit by a bus this morning. Luckily not badly.
I was on London Bridge, heading south, and stationary in the middle lane, with a bus behind me and a car in front, both stationary. I was sitting on my top tube, with the nose of my saddle nestling in my upper right buttock, and my left foot on the ground. Suddenly, I felt a huge bump from behind. The bus had lurched forward, as if it had stalled, and smacked into my back wheel. If I'd been trackstanding, or riding, I'd have been thrown off.
I still have no idea why he did it, the traffic in front hadn't moved at all, neither had I, he must have just not been paying attention, or done it on purpose, though that seems unlikely given the risk to his livelihood. He was already out of his little cab and opening the doors as I went round to bang on them, and he just looked bemused. There was no damage at all to the wheel (big tyres and bombproof rims) and I was in a seriously bad mood and didn't want it to escalate, plus the traffic on both sides had begun to move, so I just told him to be more careful and carried on.
If there was ever a day to put you off cycling, it's today. Too many roadworks and shit weather seems to have turned even more road users into aggressive, dangerous cunts, and it took all of my restraint to not become one myself.

Glad you're alright Tom! Did you get the licence plate?
-
• #1761
No, I did the typical thing of just wanting to get out of the way and not really thinking of that till after.
There was no damage done though to me or my bike (though I might have a bruised arse tomorrow), and I'm pretty certain it was an accident so I'm still not really sure whether I should have taken it further.
-
• #1762
Accidents like that shouldn't happen, bus drivers should have more control over what they're doing :(
I completely understand about wanting to get away from the situation - if you know the time and bus route you could still report it to TFL as they might be able to track the bus down even without the licence number.
Though TFL were completely useless the last time I reported a bus driver, I think it's probably worth registering it with them. Sounds like you had a lucky escape, but the next time the bus driver fucks up staying still it might be different...
Hope the bruises are too magnificent.

Glad you're alright Tom. Regarding the mass of roadworks, I note that there is a roadworks deadline in the run up to the Olympics, so that the great and the good of the worlds media have a reduced vision of quite what a joke our infrastructure is while they whip around our VIP lanes gawping at the proles fighting over what little dignity and road space they have left.

If he apologised and there's no damage I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Should have had a calm word with him there and then but if you would have struggled to stay calm you probably did the second best thing by riding away.
-
• #1765
The last thing I said to him, to be more careful, I said in a calm way. I didn't have much more to say to him that wasn't just haranguing him, he clearly knew he had made a mistake and wasn't aggressive in the slightest, so I didn't want or need to exacerbate the situation.
I actually felt the CYC van that forced me into the puddle, the taxi driver that tried to do the same as we were slowing down for traffic lights and then swore at me when I remained in primary, and the Audi that cut me up at the bottleneck under the viaduct up Farringdon Road were more threatening, and would be more likely to bring me harm in the future.
Fucking shower of cunts.
That's better.

This morning was fucking horrible on the roads, two HGVs pulling straight out in front of me the second so close I nearly ended up underneath it! Lost count of the number of vans and cars that cut me up and nearly hit me when passing.
Was trying to work out what was going on. Tuesdays are usually the worst day on the road but today was extra-specially bad. Realised it's probably because loads of drivers are either still pissed or hungover from the football last night. Can't think of any other reason why their driving was particularly bad this morning!
By way of an exchange, the roads were really quiet last night at around 5pm. Looking forward to when the Lolympics is on so I can get out on my bike while everybody is getting shitfaced watching some running and jumping contests.

Need a wee bit advice - just got hit by a car, totally the driver's fault. I was going straight, he was turning right, pretty direct impact... Please don't ask me to write up the story in details, because I don't want to having to write it twice. Police report, driver's details, witness' details and myself are being taken care of. But bike is not happy, front wheel is wayyyyy off, the rest of the bike seems OK, but not 100% sure. How do I go about assessing the damage? And do I then contact the driver to send him the bill as soon as? Or should I wait for the police to take action 1st? Last time I was involved in a road accident, it took the police about 6 months to finally got the driver prosecuted and either myself or my bike can wait that long.
Also, a bit of a moral debate here, the driver was ever so slightly reluctant to get off his van at 1st, probably just shaken up, until about 3 peds practically surrounded his van, and I was off the road, he then pulled aside and got off his van. He was fairly apologetic and all, but I said I will press charges nevertheless, he wasn't reckless but certainly careless. Should I put in a good word for him in my statement? Is that even going to make any difference to the end result?

take the bike to a shop for a full assessment
read the what to do thread http://www.lfgss.com/thread4213.html
get yourself a solicitor from here http://www.lfgss.com/thread48513.html they may be able to obtain a partial early payment for some of the damages
get yourself to hospital, the injuries may come out in a delayed fashion
heal up fast

Thanks mate, I have an appt at the GP's tomorrow for something else anyway, so I will get them to check it over. I just can't take waiting in A&E for hours right now. Will I need anything from the doc?
-
• #1770
I have only got 1 witness, there was another guy who hung around, I was too shaken up to ask him for his details too. A fellow cyclist saw it, he stopped to make sure I was alright and pedaled on... Maybe he is here too? The incident happened on Camberwell Church Road X Wilson Road, just pass Southwark town hall, tonight at 7:30 ish... get in touch if you are that cyclist who was behind me, please!
-
• #1771
A&E is actually a good place to go, it is not a weekend so queues should not be too big. It is really important to get any injuries documented and to make it clear that you did everything as promptly as possible.
Make sure the contact details for the witness are correct. What did the driver say to the police, did he admit liability? Have you got his full details?
Hope it all works out for you.
-
• #1772
I went to the station myself later on, because believe me or not, when I called 999, I couldn't get through. Like I said, I was really shaken up so I thought I will take everyone's details and go to the police later. Wasn't thinking clearly, obviously. I have got his name and number, took a few pics of the car including the sticker thing on the wind screen. I know I have followed all the steps, but what I did was all I remembered to do and able to.

• #1773
there are details on the forms you need to fill out with the police, best to go through the list of instructions as well as you can
it may seem like a lot of bother, but will be worth it in the long term
-
• #1774
I know I have done that form before and got results. You know that witness guy said I could give him my email and he will write up a statement, shall I do it or shall I wait for the police to get in touch with him? He is a local and seems very keen to help.
-
• #1775
get the statement, you can't rely on the police to do much they may decide not to do anything and if it is done soon his recall will be good.
^^get some cycle training. Check out Bikeright in Manchester
