The farmoor road, B4044, isn't a pleasant ride thanks to the angry people stuck behind and the large buses getting very close. We could try coming out of oxford through Cumnor then head through Stanton Harcourt the back way, follow the loop through Witney and Hanborough, Pub in Eynsham, then head back to Oxford/Witney via A40? Or I was thinking maybe Brill if you know the way, as it's about the right distance with a big hill up to Brill and a convenient pub at the top...

Nice looking ride, passes within 5 minutes of my door but I doubt I'll be able to join.
enjoy.
p.s. I prefer the botley-farmoor-swinford route to the A40 any time, although I don't ride either that often.

ali0sha, I've just realised you said to aviod the road through Farmoor and I went and plotted a route along it right after! Sorry, reading fail on my part.
You sound like you know your way around so getting lost shouldn't be too much of an issue. Brill looks like a good option, not been out that way. I'll jot down some directions for Thursday. -

aliosha- is brill the place that is on top of a hill with a cobbled street?

Cheers for that, will have to check out a few of those. I like the look of that Henley route!
I often see quite a few people out towards Stadhampton, I guess people like the long flats! -

Yes but it gets a bit dull after a while (it's my route to work), makes me want some hills. Luckily the area around Watlington has plenty :)
Anytime you fancy a ride... -

So, are there a fair few OUCC riders on here? I'm due to be starting a DPhil in October and will probably try and get involved with some of the training.
-
• #86
they're a good bunch.
OU Tri Club are a good bunch also...
make sure you at least get the kit.
its well nice.I'm no longer there, and no one I know of is still at the club.
I last rode with them in 2008, i think. -
• #87
Awesome, I'm a triathlete by choice so most of the roadies will have no trouble leaving me in their dust.
I've seen the new OUCC kit, very cool but nothing can beat my existing race kit: yellow 2 piece tri suit covered in butterflies and hibiscus!

• #88
thats pretty sweet.
the tri club are faster than the roadies from memory. -

whats the Dphil in?

Short answer:
Wildlife Conservation
Slightly longer answer:
How can international climate change policies aimed at reducing rates of deforestation be implemented to provide both the biggest reductions in CO2 emissions, and the maximum co-benefits to wildlife conservation (specifically big cats). The way things are looking at the moment I'll be focussing on Clouded Leopards in Sabah and possibly parts of China as a case study.
I can't wait!

genius.
guarantees a trip to china and malaysia.
correct way to approach a PhD- you lucky bastard.
you'll be in Zoology though right?
ugliest fucking building ever- go to Biochem for lunch- really good caff.
(i was a biochemer)
which college? -
• #92
bugger... accidentally deleted everything.
Actually based in Geography, although working closely with one of the groups in Zoology. Slight soft spot for the Zoo building though as I my dad had an office there so I can remember running away to explore the corridors when I was very young. The whole building still has exactly the same smell it had 15-20 years ago!
I'll be at Oriel, having been there for an MSc 07-08 I wasn't sure they'd take me back but it seems they will. :)
Do you mean the fancy new BIochem building off behind the geography?

yeah, i never got to use it, xcept for the cafe and exams, but its lovely.
it used to be in the tower (krebs building) on the top floor meaning excellent views:
and had the weirdest mum n son team running it.
the fish in Zoology are amazing, still sure i've spent more time in that building than any other in oxford, as the library was always empty. -

So we had a good ride out to Brill, stopped in the Pheasant for a drink and cycled back. It was very wet, but not cold so we didn't really mind the rain. Some nice lanes if you can aviod the gravel, and not much traffic about.
Had a bit of an "oh shit" moment coming back into Oxford when a car braked suddenly at a zebra crossing causing ali0sha to go into the back of them, but luckily bike and rider were all ok.
A good ride despite the rain, and I got home to fine a lasagne in the oven, score!
that's a great ride,
enjoy it, oxford peeps
