Thanks Sas, that is usefull. Ardicus, see you 5-30 at Carfax tower, Thurs. Any others welcome............. My fixie is currently visiting Warlands, so likely to be on a road bike (oh the shame)

Ardicus, really sorry but have to work late on Thurs, cant get out of it. Can we reschedule? Annoying I know, I was looking forward to a ride.

No problem, cheers for the PM. I'm not about on Sat/Sun (Brighton triple crown), and I'll be taking it easy bike-wise next week as I'm riding to Paris at the weekend but could go for a relaxed ride one evening.

Now I look proper silly. Boss cannot now do Thurs pm, so I'm free to meet up as originally planned. Let me know if you cannow make it (again). D
-
• #56
Yup I can make it. See you tomorrow. Any other takers?
-

After my pretty impressive cock-up yesterday we didn't get out for a ride. So I'm now meeting domski at 18:30 this evening at Warlands (bike shop) on Botley Road. If anyone would like to join us they would be more than welcome!

Domski, I've just sent you a text but just in case you don't see it: I won't make half six. Someone has stolen a load of cabling from the signals between Reading and Swindon which means lots of delays /cancellations on the trains so wont make it back from work in time.
Thankfully I have my bike here at work so I can get home, but I won't be back in time to ride.

One day, soon. Sorry to hear that the siganl cabling is now en route to China. D

Fate is conspiring against us!
On the plus side I recorded a new best time for the ride home - 1h26m over a little under 30 miles :)

New time : the wonders of travel chaos-induced angst

Right! Lets get organising a ride for next week shall we? I imagine I will be quite tired of leg after Paris this weekend, so how does Wednesday evening at half 5 sound?
Hopefully this will actually happen this time!
-
• #63
Wednesday 25th? Hrm. I'm in Witney, riding a brand new but unimpressive Ridgeback Solo fixed. My last day at my antisocial evening shift is Thursday 19th, so basically I'm down for whatever, whenever!
I'm up for a ride but I was thinking of doing polo on my first Wednesday of freedom.
-
• #64
Well I was meaning tomorrow but next week would be good for me also. I had forgotten polo is on Wednesdays, perhaps a different day would be better?
-
• #65
My mistake. Any day you're up for it, I guess! Shall we call it Thursday?
-
• #66
Thursday as in tomorrow, or next week? Either or both sounds good. Any time after about half 5 works for me, how about you?
Edit: Actually, can't make it until next week, forgot I'm busy tomorrow eve. And Not in oxford over the weekend. -
• #67
That makes it Thursday 26th August at Carfax at 5:30 I reckon. What route shall we take, will you object to be being in lycra? (I'm going to be cycling in from Witney beforehand...)
-
• #68
Sounds good. Fingers crossed for some glorious sunshine!
Route-wise, I only really know the area south towards Watlington, and the hills beyond. I'd be just as happy to show the way in that direction as to learn some new routes. But it makes sense to do some sort of loop back to Witney, so you don't have to do an extra 25 mile round trip. I shall have a look at the map an see about a route...
I have no objections to lycra. -
• #69
A note about routes: avoid the route from the botley road through farmoor to the toll bridge. Only idiots and fools cycle it. the preferred routes are a) the scenic route around to stanton harcourt b) the a40 cycle path

Late notice I know, but if anyone feels like playing polo tomorrow come to the Marston court around 1pm.
-

I may be up for a ride on thursday. I live in radley so just a short ride up into oxford. How long do you guys ride for? Im a complete novice so i dont have lycra im afraid...

This wont be a massive ride. I wont have had dinner so will be looking to be back in Oxford by 9, but not a big deal if we're later.
I haven't had a look at routes yet but I'll plot something and post it up here. Probably about 20-30 miles at an easy pace with a stop somewhere for a drink. Add navigating time into that and we'll be out for somewhere around 3 hours I'd guess. We can always cut it a bit shorter if need be. -

How does this look? 30 miles, no big hills, mostly avoiding larger roads. There is a pub at Stanton Harcourt (20 miles in), never been there so don't know what it's like, but seems as good a place as any to stop.
Ali0sha, I was thinking you could turn back along the B4022 after the pub if you didn't want to go all the way back to Oxford only to have to turn around and head back to Witney again.

That sounds exactly right; I won't have had dinner either. Back at around 8:30-9 means I'll get home by 10 :D
