"wut?"
Sorry what do you mean?

Why are you buying an expensive wetsuit? I rented one when I done my iron man. Spending more on a bike will yield better results.

thats worth knowing thank you, do you recall who you rented it from? thanks

You need to train to eat/drink at whatever intensity you are racing at (assuming you need to eat/drink).
On the subject of triathlon.. to all those fuckers who did what appeared to be a triathlon in Henley/Marlow today - CLEAN UP YOUR FUCKING MESS!
I assume it was this: http://www.fun2tri.co.uk/henley/index.htm
I couldn't believe how many bottles, bar and gel wrappers were thrown along the stretch of road between Henley and Marlow. If I can carry all my stuff home when riding for up to 12hrs how hard is it for some wanker doing a 1hr event to hold onto their crap until they spot a bin? Shit, you shouldn't even need to eat in a sprint event. 1 bottle on bike, job done.

I've said it before - Triathletes are dicks.
Organisers should have an automatic DQ for litterers.
I've got cramps starting the run doing sprint distance too - without having taken anything on other than breakfast.
I'm going to train by taking all my meals on the turbo. I'm putting a tray on my aero bars.Cramps in sprints? You're not training hard enough or not doing enough bricks to get used to running off the bike.
If you're using gels or drinks in the race, use the same amounts at the same times in training.

Was up at the TriHard, Day In The Lake half-Ironman over the weekend to watch my gf. Was drafted in to do some marshalling, including policing the dismount line. After all I've seen and heard I was expecting to have to dish it out a bit to some tryers. In the end all of the riders were well behaved and polite. Frankly I'm a little disappointed. What's the point in having authority if you can't abuse it?

Can someone suggest a decent set of tri-specific (or full body) circuit training exercises?
It's a long time since I've done circuits (5 years) but I'm abroad at the moment with very little opportunity to run and I want to keep things ticking over. I guess I'll probably arrange things into a 30-60 minute circuit or split it into 2 circuits that I can alternate. Exercises can't be anything too extravagant and need to be doable with no aids in cramped hotel rooms.
I'm thinking:
Press ups,
Sit ups,
squats,
burpees,
bicycle crunches,
tricep dips (where possible),
errr... anything else -

Are there any good Tri coaches on the forum? or do I need to head over to the TT thread? I'm currently pondering my assault on 2013 and I'm thinking I might like some advice on how to balance my ambitions of a fast Ironman (well as fast as I can) with my goal of finishing a 100mile ultra... I'm struggling to think how I should split my run/bike training to get the best gains from both?

Just been chatting to a colleague who is doing the alpe d'Huez tri this year, I'm a bit jealous! Has anyone here ever done it?

I've done the alpe d'huez tri before. It's tough. Real tough.
The half marathon at the top, at altitude and after leaving my legs on 21 bends, was incredibly hard. I'd run an 84 min half marathon 2 months before at the Bala middle distance, but struggled to finish the run in less than 2hrs20. Also, I blew my load on the first two climbs...so alpe d'huez was (believe it or not...) incredibly tough... The day before we drove the course a thought nothing of the second climb (Col d’Ornon)....we were wrong...It was windy and it slowly and meticulously wore my legs down. It can also be quite hot, I remember it being 34 at the foot of alpe d'huez.
The swim is awesome and the first bit of the cycle is quick and scenic and as can be expected the descents are super fast.I'd definitely be up for doing it again...at some point...

Someone like Nick Thomas of Man Tri is the kinda person you might want to chat with, here's his blog:

Worth a look in on TriTalk for advice maybe? There's plenty balancing similar aims over there.

Weekends Tri may become a Duathlon due to recent rain levels, if not the downstream river swim 1500m could be sub 10 mins!
(unlikely really)

I had forgotten about him, I read a couple of his blog posts a year or so ago, VERY VERY impressive! I think he's the brother in law of one of the guy's I raised money for when I did the TP100 last year.

In-fact, looking back at the TP, I think I might have met him as he overtook me somewhere just before Streatly (mile 71). I remember a couple of people checking I was OK as my body imploded in on itself in the last few miles before I withdrew.
Next year my aim will just be to finish in sub 24 rather than aim for a target time - so I'll be a lot more conservative.

Talking of endurance I'm during IMUK in bolton next week - first time.
Training wise i looseley followed a Fink plan but work and a new baby and illness meant i've really jslipped from that. however i've got in long rides and runs and feel the bike leg won't be too bad at all -

The alpe d'huez tri is one i'd love to attempt
