That front clearance looks tight. Too tight!

Bike looks like a lotta fun to me!
.
The photo showing the fork clearance was taken with a 25c tyre on the rim. The largest clincher tyre you can fit on the front is a 23c.

We've had this discussion before, but never got to the bottom of it.
But it was owned by a British Track TT member so it's certainly a great bike.
And he said it was a Merckx.
Any idea of the rider, chances are I'll know them and be able to give a better idea of the frame. The choices that spring to mind are Raleigh, Waugh or Soens. But most builders would use Campag drop outs and most of the big names would build with lugs and would have engraving on the seat stay/forks. Back in those days a squad rider would be given frame tubes and get a frame built for them. Also most Lo Pros from back then would either be a 24" or 26" front wheel.

after seeing that front wheel 'clearance' you could believe that it was indeed meant for a 26 wheel

The frame is for 700c front and rear. With a 23c tyre on the front wheel the clearance is tight but perfectly fine.

im 180cm tall, with an inner leg of 90cm. would it fit me?
And i mean fit me and have a reasonable amount of seat post exposed. -
• #35
yeah real nice

"I'm simply too tall to ride it."
How tall are you?
I'm, what others consider, WELL tall (like 6'4/6'5) but what love to take this cycle off your hands.
It depends on your inside leg. But it definitely could fit you.

And i mean fit me and have a reasonable amount of seat post exposed.Sounds perfect. That's about a 35" inside leg. I have a 39" inside leg and in the photo dmczone posted of the frame built up, I needed more leg extension.

shit, i did the maths and i recon i might be able to afford it. its very tempting.
would i ruin it if i put a drilled 650c fork on the front? or even just put a brake on it? because of the hills where i live, having a brake is a necessity.
also are the bars for sale? and if not, what are they? -
• #38
Go for it. I imagine you'd make a really nice bike out of it.
The bars aren't for sale, as they aren't mine. Contact milo on here I think he has them.
PM me if you are interested in the frame, cheers buddy

I am highly interested having never ridden a low pro - this one seems to tick al of the boxes. Just one question, can I be sure that it is a frame from the E. Merckx stable??
-
• #43
no, of course you can't, so you shouldn't buy it :D
starts praying -

is there a frame number
that would define the make surely ? -
• #47
if max was 100% sure this is a merckx, he would be selling it for well over 500, it is still well worth the money what ever it is.

• #48
is there a frame number
that would define the make surely ?There may be one under the BB shell, but it is covered with paint. I haven't investigated.

This is the only photo I could find of the bike and rider.
He was emailed yesterday so hopefully he'll respond and set the record straight.
