route sheet? on the day?

I managed to lose mine without about 10 minutes of riding last year, and its not easy to read in the dark, so I think I will rejig the route on GPSies as per Oli's instructions and follow that. I'll post it up here when I've done it. I'll be taking my own food after last year for the half way, but it'll be good to stop, pee and refill water bottles there.
Thx Oli :-)

last year was really easy, just follow the heaps of bikes and try to go ahead of dulwich paragon ha!

I'm planning on doing that too... taking own food and not relying on the pit stop.

That's easy for you to say! Having got lost a couple of times after relying on others last year, I'm going to rely on myself - so it'll just be my own bloody fault this time :-)
As long as I don't end up in Ipswich like Spag I'll be happy! -

@velocio, my version is here. Slightly too many course points (markers that warn of junctions) for a Garmin to handle, but it'll still have the pink line all the way to Dunwich. The route is based on the 'official' list of villages, though could be economised a little, e.g. cutting out fyfield, finchingfield, etc. (nota bene, I plotted this for personal use and cannot be held responsible for any navigational errors that may arise from its use)
Possible timesaving. Includes new feed stop, with a nice little Banana icon warning you and everything.

I have the 605, i'm guessing yours would work better as a TCX as the gpx seems to keep altering my routes!

I turned auto-routing off on my OSM install because it kept 'rearranging' carefully decided upon routes when I loaded them up. Now gpx's work just fine for me. I prefer to use .tcx though because it's nice to see the upcoming elevation profile.
Bikeroutetoaster has a nice transfer as tcx (or gpx) function that utilises garmin connect to get stuff straight on to the device, hassle free (click the Summary tab at the top of the page) -

What's the best way to get the route into an iPhone then?
I know it's only a semi-organised event but canny believe they haven't posted an updated version yet
-
• #537
3stripe although your iphone battery prob wont last the distance gpsies.com has an ipown app that will show pre-entered routes and will work with your gps
-
• #538
Cheers. Yeah will probably leave it turned off until halfway, or getting properly lost, whichever comes first.
-
• #539
I use EveryTrail on my iphone 2g, works pretty good as long as you have coverage and plotted the route carefully

Does a garmin 705 last through the night?
Might get one just because ... well ... I like kit! -
• #541
I'm thinking the Garmin should do it fine. Done equivalent daylight miles with mine quite comfortably, but I'm not sure how much the backlight is going to destroy the battery life. (will try and stick to minimal usage, it should only turn itself on to warn of junctions but I might get curious and button pressy)

Can't do GPS - no room left on my 'bars with all the lights on there... :o

• #543
Here I am, asking questions while pressing "order" ...

• #544
makes note to travel with pascalo
-
• #545
before you press order! how much are you paying? there's a 705 deal somewhere for 260ish without maps.
-
• #546
Light wise I have a hope vision 1 ... 2 battery packs ... hope that's enough!
-
• #547
Yeah, no maps, HR and cadence for 290 at amazon!
Come om, I work in IT ... I know how to obtain maps. -
• #548
£267 from handtec
Plus if you can make some maps that aren't OpenStreetMap work (not that I have an issue with OSM) I might have to pop round some time. -
• #549
I trust amazon because of delivery etc. I go with them. The hassle to sort out stuff otherwise in my building, even with Wiggle ... Grrrr!
Actually, fuck it ... I try those guys, they have next day before 12pm delivery :)

That's the only thing that puts me off GPS the battery life.

It's in Sible Hedingham, about 10 miles ahead of the normal feed stop. SH is on the route--you only have to find the hall in the village.
2008 takes you to Lavenham, where the feed was that year, as Great Waldingfield was being refurbished. Don't use that route unless you can correct it. It's a couple of miles extra.
