Coach takes about two hours.
Assume a wait till at least mid-morning whilst the slower people roll in. -

I'm there.
I seem to always miss this one, but not this year. I need to be on hand to tell Clefty every 5 minutes how much better this ride would be if she was rocking a dynamo.- Velocio (+ Coach)

Is this a list for the lfgss coach that was being discussed?

Just a general list for attendees with an indication of what they want to do at the end.
Anyone organising a coach yet? Just need to know if my driving services are going to be needed or not.

What's the deal with the coach? Is it for transporting us and our bikes?
- Velocio (+ Coach)

• #212
The current plan, if it can be called that, is to hire both a coach for dead bodies and a van for the forum bling.
-
• #213
I think its been said up-thread, but the coaches laid on by southwark cyclists (£15) were an absolute nightmare last year. If the lfgss Sexypartybus fails to materialise, then i imagine riding to a train station somewhere would be a better option.
Does anyone have experience of trains and cycle issues in the area? Halesworth or Darsham look like the best bets.
-
• #214
The train from Darsham will be close to impossible to board with a bike due the high numbers of people trying to do so. There is every chance that they may just refuse to take bikes at all, which would mean Halesworth would also be out. You would actually be better on the Southwark Cyclists bus.
If you are going to stump £15 then we should be able to get a coach and van sorted for just us.

• #215
Any train station closer to Dunwich will be a nightmare.
Last year Jim and I rode to Ipswich and got the train home with no issues (The pub opposite is a hole but sells nice cider). -
• #216
the whole issue with the coaches last year was that they weren't very organised they didn't put the bikes on the coaches
they loaded a truck / shipping container ( which took forever ) and then had to unload at the other end 200+ bikeslondonfgss being the organised smaller more nimble posse will have the coach loaded in 10 mins we'll be off and 10 mins unload at the other end
there shouldn't be too much hanging aroundthey must have taken 4 - 5 hrs to do all that with the organised transport last year

yo guys
looking for a bit of advice really.
me and a mate handled the marathon ride, full pace with ease.
the longest ride ive ever done is around 40 miles.
do you guys think i could handle this?
im not really sure what to expect from it. -
• #219
try doing 70 or 80 miles in the next couple of weeks then see what your legs think. riding with the forum would be a good idea.
dunwich is a major ride, even more so if you're fixed, and you don't want to realise you can't do it 60 miles in. there's nowhere to go but onwards or backwards, both of which are another 60 miles.
you'll need some practice, you can't go from 40 miles to 120 but you can go from 40 to 65 to 90 to 120.. people have already started training for it.
best bet first off is to get yourself on one or preferably all of the Corny summer rides which are coming up.

• #220
awesome
thanks :)
im only a young'un as well. -
• #221
that may well be on your side if you're in good shape already.. you need to ask people about eating and drinking though, it's a whole world of being sensible about things you might take for granted and get wrong....
-
• #222
okay then
what should i know about nutrition and the like? -
• #223
someone who has done this ride should come on and tell you about it soon.. it's a very significant part of doing the ride even if you're comfortable with longer rides already. sign up to the southend, brighton and cambridge rides (and oxford?) and do them - there will probably be at least three or four people on them that you can have a good chat about it with.
-
• #224
awesome!
im properly up for this. -
• #225
it'll be a major achievement for you if you do it.. on your side from the off is the fact it's a pretty forgiving terrain, not too much to speak about in terms of gradients, and there are loads of people doing it so the event will hype you up.
ironically i'm only on here wistfully as it's three weeks later than last year and i've only just realised it's on the same night as a family wedding anniversary, which means i won't be able to do it yet again. I'm pretty gutted about it as i've been very much working towards it over the last couple of months.
i'll probably see you on one of the upcoming rides though.. very much the best way to get started on some more serious riding i reckon. i've always had great rides with the forum.
ok i'm in i think
It's the weekend after geneva, and one before Karshrue, what the hell, why not.
So, this coach, i know there's no exact time , but do you think it would be more-less in the morning, or in the afternoon ? And how long does it take to get back to London ?
just considering my Eurostar options..
