Of course!

Because he can get the train without being turned back for having a bike that would block exits.
If your bike can be reduced to fit within a 1m square, then you have no issues taking it on even a commuter train.
Though I don't think I'll be testing that by taking my Mather apart. They seem to just think of Bromptons and nothing else.

I thought at weekends bikes are ok... Is it just because of this event there additional are restrictions?
-
• #131
They only ever permit X number of bikes per train. When you have a thousand wanting to ride they just say no. Not a problem if you're in brighton and only have 60 miles to ride... but a bit of an issue if you're in Dunwich and have already ridden as far as you might want to.

1m square x what thickness? Or maybe 1m cubed? (Though that would be kind of chunky!)

train company required 'folding' bicycle, on a technical, your Mather is a folding bicycle thereforth have every right to bring it on the train.
of course different line may have different rules, but on the London Underground, your Mather is allowed indefintely.

That won't stop them calling the police on you if they decide you're being a nuisance though

Just for planning purposes. The van that I'm driving will have space for two passengers as well. Applications for a guaranteed quiet ride back to London can be made to be in writing on headed paper.

By headed paper I mean a five pound note.

I read that a while ago, it varies on different lines, SWT were pretty fine with bicycle, even full-size bicycle when I need to take the train to Farnham.
When the train was packed, they helped me packed it into a smaller acceptable size.

Longest distance I've done is to Brighton. Anyone going to be training for this? I doubt I'll be able to succeed off the back of a just a few TNRC appearances like I did with Brighton...
Maybe I'll just watch Rides/Races and pick up every longer ride I can this summer?

@serk if you ride regularly you'll be fine. I did this last year having only done daily commutes (20 miles a day) and one ride of about 50 miles.
If you don't ride every day, then I would do a couple of 60-80 milers beforehand. It's not really hilly tho - however not flat, there are lots of long downhills on the first half as I remember, then its fairly flat with some rolling on the last 30-40 miles or so. -

I've ridden the DD 5 times (I think), only the first time I used gears and I have to say the only real bonus of not going fixed is the ability to stand on the pedals to relieve my aching posterior! It's not a difficult ride at all, just a damn long way for most of us!

^ ... in fact, on the latter part of the ride I actually look forward to the hills for the chance to get up out of the saddle. Maybe I should invest in some better shorts?

My commute is 5 miles each way and although I do it almost every day I don't think it will be enough to prepare me. Based on your experience it sounds like if I show up to a bunch of TNRC's and do another Brighton or similar as an saddle-warm-up that I'll be okay.

I'm in for a ride back. The coaches last year were a fucking farce.
Also, I shall be buying a massive thermos.

I'm thinking no lighting and just riding using the force.
i don't get it... how does being on a brompton remove the requirement for a coach?
