  • if too much just one day, do it in two, but no a couple of weeks that's too long

  • My prediction for pre-qualifiers:

    1st: BAD
    2nd: Cosmic
    3rd: Apples

    and 4th is anyone's!

    hopebeardsdontgetinhatesnoops

i'm not shit talking, just quoting for posterity. posterity means it goes on the poster right todd?

  • Just have a mad one day tourney and we'll all come down for throw in's. It'll be immense!

    chan stop stirring

  • agata stop stirring

  • skoota star stirring

  • i have an idea.

All teams meet at downham in wrestling gear. Then have a "team royal rumble". No bikes, no mallets, just wrestling. Last 4 teams left go to the euro's.

    I'll ref.

    +100

  • ps. see you suckas at the worlds

  • one day
    one chance

  • Rik do you mean poll rather than pool, ie put it to a vote?

  • And jusy out of interest, was there registration for the qualifying?

  • We already know that the one day, one chance thing doesn't work. It upset a lot of people last year (and excluded conos, BAD, and almost BR), but we had to do it because of lack of time. This year you have time. Surely we won't make the same choice that didn't work last year for this year?!?

Plus, while I agree that the "epic tourney" would be fun to watch, that's not what a qualifiers should be about, They should be about qualifying the best people we have to offer in the best way possible.

Also, surely teams can keep registering till we know what we're doing, and then, depending on that decision, until another set date with lots of notice. There's no reason for any deadline right now.

  • No, we had a deadline to register by the 20th, and our allocation for the euros is based on those registered. If we add more teams now, it's not fair to the teams that pulled their fingers out and registered in time.

A round robin tournament was what i was thinking of, it's the fairest approach, we could spread it over a few weekends, but it will take some serious organising to make sure everyone plays everyone. Every team would need to be there (i guess) 2 days out of 3. If we go for this approach, we're almost creating another league. I see this kind of option being hugely impractical, travelling all over for games, and all the games (12 games per team) having to be played in a week or two. It's too much.

Peronally, I would much rather have a 1 day round robin tourney, we all get there early, play until we're done. That's it.

I'll set up a poll soon to decide what type of qualification system we have.

    Options so far

    1. 1 day, round robin
    2. 2 day, round robin
    3. 3 day, round robin (mini league really)
    4. highest bidders
  • £20

  • way too hot for me... im out.

  • Seems like BR missed the dead line... I cant think of another team that would be interested in the euros from London. I think they should be added to the list.

Just saw your bold edit... is this set in stone?

(our allocation for the euros is based on those registered)

  • that's how GVA decided. it's only fair. the list was up there for a week, and listed on the polo forum *forum24 as a thread and an announcement, plenty of time to get on it.

Zombie, you will need to choose 3 team members only:

We have count each step of our budget and plan on the basis of 3 players per team.
I think it would be a classical 3 per team tournament, whitout substitute or turn process...
So tell thier that for ehbpc 2010, every team need to have only 3 players regularly subscribe.

  • I asked GVA about 4 player teams, as I noticed on the list you'd listed all 4 players. By the time we register (and assuming you qualify), you will need to provide 3 names only. And I think it's only fair that you use the 3 people you used in the qualifying tournament (whatever form it takes)

  • I fear that getting teams to commit to a solid week of polo will be harder than getting people to commit to a one/two day tourney.

Pick a date, find out if most teams can make it, go from there..?

Teams that couldn't attend could possibly play all other London teams within a two week period as some sort of extension of the main tourney?

  • Yeah, good questions! Gabes, is it your suggestion to do a qualifying tournament or was this decided somewhere?

And if someone can't make it they're automatically out!? We have a little more time this year, we should try to find a fairer way if we can.

    agreed.

what about those people who work weekends? not everyone is 9-5!

  • good point sarah.

  • How about a whole weekend tourney?

I just think it would be good to get it done in a short space of time. If someone can't make saturday, can't they play sunday? can't they get a day off work? We will have 2+ months notice of when the tourney is.

Is there a better way of doing it? Get ideas down here, and we'll put a Poll together based on these ideas.

  • I think the general consensus is that we should hold a tournament/mini league to determine the best teams to go, but are we taking one step ahead already? I think Iain is trying to say is it necessarily the best teams that should represent London? or do we send new teams? teams that couldn't represent London in Karlshrue? Teams that didn't play last year? A West London team? A team with kids in (emmet?!!) dare i say it but a girls team!.. vote for the 4 teams?

I personally think we should send our top teams determined by a mini league (spread over two fixed weekdays and fixed weekend days?) - we do have time!

  • Best of the best should go to the Euros. Exhibition polo is different to competitive polo.

Surely you'd have to play all teams, would it work spread over both days?

(I'm guessing some teams would be present for both allowing other less flexible teams to play their games in one day?)

  • The original idea of the Euros (way back now) was that the top teams would compete for the title, when it came to the EHBPC2009, there wasn't a way to get the whole of europe to qualify, and there still isn't, so it's still city by city, but each city should at least send the best they have.

@Hops; yeah, multiple weekends is feasible, we'll have to have a pretty robust timetable to make sure it all works out.

I could do with some volunteers to help manage this nearer the time.

  • @jono, yes everyone wanting to qualify has to play everyone else wanting to qualify. that just the fairest system, end of.
