  • yep me... whos ares you writing aboots?

  • boy, that geneva tourney is gonna be hella tough. would love it if a london team can bring back the bacon. finding a system of who shall go is no easy task. but wouldn't it be that stupid if london doesn't send its best team cos of the tricky logistics/polotics this side?

is there anyone reading this comment that doesn't know to which team i am referring?

Well, what are you suggesting, Jonny, BAD get a bye, whatever the result/date of the qualifying tourney?

But Malice just aren't the same since James left.

    auch!

  • Malice baiting! Ha. Hahaha. The Fifth International is strong as ever.

  • Yo, news from GVA:

Official dates of tournament (16)-17-18 july.

    Dates of "final subscribtion" of teams;
    1 may
BUT, if you need it, you can have more days or weeks to tell us that.

About the pre-subscribtion number of teams:
We have ask cities to tell us names of players and names of teams they want to pre-select. But we made this to be sure that a city we don't know do not make false teams (like 2 teams with same players to increase quota).
For london, it was just another way. We knew that you have more than 15th who could pretend to come, so it was more an appreciation than a real named pre subscription.

  • That's what I've been thinking. London's number of spots was actually dependent on all the other cities pre-subscription. Basically we would have just gotten one more than everybody else...

(my other thought was coincidence, that the maths allowed us an extra spot)

  • i think that selection process is clearly explain here:
    http://ehbpc2010.wordpress.com/
    1) Each of the thirty cities that pre-registered gets one team
    2) Each city that requested 3 or more spots gets 2 spots.
    3) Each city that registered 5 or more spots gets 3 spots.
    4) The biggest polo community (and organizers of EHBPC 2009) gets 4 spots.

We have made things like that
    1) every city / one place : 48 (slots) - 30 (cities) = 18 slots left
    2)3 or more / one place more: 30- 18 = 12 slots left
    3)5 or more/ one place more: 12 - 11 = 1 slot left
    4) london = one more.

Can't be more precise than that. I think we couldn't make things in a lot of other way than this one with 48 slots for 30 cities.

  • Wow Skoota, when did you become such a hater? I understand your sentiment but that sentiment goes against everything that's great about polo compared to mainstream sports. Fuck the odds!! Long live the underdog!!! If a new team makes your chances harder than that's what polo's about! Great games come from the unexpected and London should be celebrating it's larger community, playing in tournaments is the best way to learn to play in tournaments! By your logic you shouldn't have gone to the Worlds because your chance of winning was so bad. How would you have felt if someone had shot you down like you just did to these guys?
    Where has the love gone?

If you don't play on a serious basis than your 'chance' to play in the euros is slim. This isn't being non-inclusive, it's reality and called 'having a word with yourself' it's nice to have lots of teams in tournaments, but this is a tournament by default and is inclusive by default. Don't make it harder for 'those' however many, who think they do have a chance, just because you want to play in a 'tournament'.

  • how many teams played in the qualifiers last year? and were the games timed or first to 5? i can't remember!

9 teams and I think first to 5 goals but someone else will confirm.

    15 teams
10min or first to get 5 goals

  • 15 teams
10min or first to get 5 goals

    Only 9 played.

From Mike Tramps original post below.

Well, for all the stats, that'll make for a long and boring post...

    Here's the lowdown:

    1. Malice - 7 wins GD=16
    2. Cosmic - 6 wins GD=19
    3. Zombie U. - 6 wins GD=16
    4. Rotten - 6 wins GD = 14

Playoff for 5th went to Freaky Sexx - 5 wins GD = 1

    1. Sitting Ducks - 4 wins GD=-1
    2. JiHaD - 2 wins GD = -2
    3. Team Cinzano - 1 win GD = -26
    4. Polo Seagal - 0 win GD = -36

    Congrats Malice, Cosmic, Zombie, Rotten!

I never became a hater or a shooter just because i told it like it is. Yes long live the underdog, we were at the worlds. I don't see any disparity in my post and my discussion in person.

TBF i've said something very similar. Probably not as blatant. Polo love still exists.

I dont see why this should be an attack on B. I think he's one of the first people to encourage new people to play (see the south thread). And as the numbers show the community sit 50/50 with this. This is no easy decision. shit just checked its 50/50. I voted against and im not at all scared of saying so.

  • thanks nice block and shin bone*

  • I <3 B.

But on the other hand I hate Ray, where does that leave me?

... in a whole load of shit next time i see you on court.

I thought B's sentiment was quite apt considering we were all winging about the whole feasibility aspect to a qualifying tourney, but I see where you're coming from Roxy.

Again it's one of those things though, if any polo player wants to go to the Euros, then they can, but there are still rungs to the ladder, etc?

  • @shins: It's no attack on Brendan. I said nothing harsher than he did.
    @B: I don't really understand your reply, but that's ok. :)

More importantly, surely Uomo's statement means that no matter how many teams signed up to the list earlier we would have gotten the same amount of places at the euros. Seems to me that that means that there's no reason to stick to that list and anyone who wants to should get to play. In fact, we can easily make ourselves even more inclusive and celebratory of our large community.
    That's exciting!

  • It's up to the vote. which finishes soon.

  • LPC love.

  • The vote went NO
    https://www.lfgss.com/thread36434.html

can't see that, what's happening then?

    one day, one chance?

  • that was just the vote for whether to allow more teams in chan.

london polo is all about voting. you'll get used to it.
