• i imagine that you're just a sharp minded individual James. who never has had to call the police.

  • i thought rep was dead and buried.

Yours never drew breath, if I rightly recall...

  • Nice ideas dancing_james but it really depends on the circumstances, most people would not want to take pictures and get all aggressive with 4 huge guys trying to kill them. We riders should be able to get their plates, maybe a few bystander witness details, and then remove ourselves from the situation to a safer place, then let the authorities deal with the problem. What's the point in putting CCTV cameras on every corner when it can't solve crimes?

  • Yours never drew breath, if I rightly recall...

How are them ribs healing up, old man? Can you still suck your own dick?

  • Haha! Quality.

We really need another 'arrospok' thread to invigorate this place ;)

  • How are them ribs healing up, old man? Can you still suck your own dick?

Yes, but thanks for the offer...

  • having said that, when the car hit me from behind at the junction and then tried to drive off, the police did ask me to put the phone on speaker phone so they could record the woman refusing to stop or give her details and the sound of her driving her car into me to try and force me out of her way.

so making the call did not make her see sense until the police told her by the speakerphone to stop, wait for them and that she had to exchange details

others have tried to take my phone off me when I have called the police

ideally you can get the pictures at a safe distance

so using a phone is not certain to work but it is worth thinking about

  • A taxi driver acted in a psychotic manor toward me.

    A "psychotic manor"?

    Is that Walford?

  • Sorry to hear that tommy, but some people lack the humanity gene. You did not affect the taxi driver one bit, only in his mind. Glad you are here to tell the tale.

Just for future reference did you call 999 or the met police 0207 515 1212 number? Practical solutions above btw.

  • wow you did well, i don't know what i would do to him and his motor,

  • What a complete cunt.
It's so disheartening to know that in these sort of situations where people act in an incredibly threatening way towards others, the police will generally do fuck all. Unless someone actually gets hurt. In which case it's obviously too late...

I've only been cycling for a couple months now (regularly on the road I mean, BMX for years before that) and already I'm getting sick of the behaviour of quite a proportion of drivers.

Got shaken up the other evening because an open back truck (dunno what they are called, the kind you get scaffolding on etc) couldn't wait the 5 or so seconds for me to get through the width restriction in the road, so he zoomed past me and the rear end came within about 3 inches of taking me right out. What are these people thinking?

  • His actions make me so angry that if I wanted a cab and he was next in the rank I would just walk on by to the next cab. Oh yes. I fucking would.

  • Whoah!!! Whoah! Everyone just calm down! just calm down....

  • His actions make me so angry that if I wanted a cab and he was next in the rank I would just walk on by to the next cab. Oh yes. I fucking would.

Surely you'd push him out the driver's side door first? ;]

When did this happen, and are you sure it wasn't a spurned girlfriend Mr Lovemeister? ;p

  • repeating a drivers license plate or cabbies id number at them can help them think about what they are doing. this also tends to work with people in vehicles in their employers livery.

if they stop get your phone out, take photos and key in 999.

My friend did this once when a Currys lorry stopped to give her abuse. He snatched her phone and lobbed it across the road.

@ tommy - shame you had to endure this prick.

  • The Police only exist as revenue collectors. Expecting them to do much at all about anything else is a pretty futile endeavour

  • Well done for coping well with this situation Tommy.

I think I would have very nervously avoided this guy pretty soon after the first altercation, but I don't know, when someone's trying to do crazy shit like that, how I'd react.

I seem to have tuned in to certain attitude-y revs in Black cabs and other nutters behind me and often made sure to actually pull over and roll a fag for a minute, or crawl along to let them piss off, and if I feel threatened I would take the first opportunity to leave the main road and take a quieter or more circuitous road, being sure that they're in front of me not behind.

Your responses sound reasoned but sometimes it's just not worth it.

  • richoking

as i had said, try to take pics from a safe distance

this morning I was contemplating having a video camera and recording my journeys, just so I have evidence of the stupid idiots out there. (it would probably also get some choice insults from me on record)

next taxi prick that we get the details for we should all send various complaints about said driver ranging from dangerous driving/spitting/racism/cab was in a state/short changing a blind man.
That should cause no end of trouble for the driver for a couple of weeks

*"This action can vary in severity from an initial warning to revocation of a driver's licence. All decisions are based on an individual driver's overall service history and the seriousness and nature of the complaint received."*

This guy in Glasgow has been doing that for a couple of years.

His videos are on YouTube but for some reason You Tube is down at the moment

  • The phone thing usually works, but if an aggressive driver is keen for a face to face/nose to nose, I once diffused the situation by warning him that I will only act in self defence and have been doing martial arts for 35years (jeezus I'm that old). This bizarely turned into a matey chat about the merits of tiger crane....wtf
