Well I went down and had a go. In the attached video I am the damn fool on the Mountain bike, wearing a waxed jacket and steel toe cap boots who manages to miss the ball with the mallet an awful lot.

But I did do a trade with Harvey who was running the show for a Mallet, so now I'm full armed and probably extremely dangerous.

Got my Polo hack sorta rideable, got a useable mallet, and a few tennis balls. I'm just going to have a bit to eat, and I'll be down a Sloughbottom Park just after 7pm.

I haven't even got in from work yet. Will do my best to make it down.

Three others and me turned up this evening, so we got to play a few chukkas of two aside; I even managed to score a couple of goals. Started a 7pm and quit just before 9pm.
We are starting earlier next Tuesday (and maybe from then on) at 6.30 pm; mainly to ensure that we possibly get to the muga first before others.
There was even slack-lining set up for use to have a go at.

I can buy a 5 metre length of 3/4" X 16 swg 6061 ally for just under £6.
However, standard delivery and VAT kill it:
Ally tubing £5.67
Delivery £14.95
VAT £4.21
total £24.74So it's £5 a metre before we even start. Of course access to, and use of my workshop equipment and time would be free for the Norwich boys for this.

Keppel, if I wanted to learn to weld, where could I do that? Did you teach yourself? I've tried asking local colleges, but they don't really do weekend/evening courses.

Yesterday we got Nelly Rodders bike built. Probably done by 9pm and headed to Sloughbottom. No polo at that time. :-(

Hey Norwich
We're organising a Brighton tournament this summer and are looking at the 7th May.
It would be great to get a Norwich team involved, we're trying to get a decent set of non-London teams involved.
Keep the weekend free and keep in touch.

Just to bring you all up to date with whats going on with us:
We are now meeting at 6.30pm every Tuesday evening at the sloughbottom park floodlit MUGA, opposite the pavillion and will gladly welcome anyone who turns up and wants to have a go.
I have managed to source some very reasonably priced 6628 ally tubing 3/4 dia X 16 guage, and half sphere plastic bungs to suit. George gave me a dozen pieces of 63mm dia plastic water pipe, which I am going to fit to the ally tubing, although we are going to leave the material and cover for the hand grips down to the individual. We will also have about 5 mallets fully made up to borrow on the night.
Simon donated an old MTB to the team, which will be converted to a Polo hack, and resprayed by me; I am hoping to have this ready for next Tuesday evening. This will be the loner hack for anyone who turns up one a Tuesday to use. I am hoping to have 2 more loners available before the end of May.
Harvey, who runs the indoor hardcourt polo venue in Cambridge has invited us to an afternoon session free of charge one weekend TBA.
Future Radio has also asked if a couple of us would like to go up to their studios and talk about bicycle Polo live on one of the evening or weekend shows.
Some of you already know that I came a pisser a couple weeks ago, and fractured my collar bone, along with recieving a lot of bruises and some "court rash." So I am a little tender and taking it easy at the moment. I did intend to turn up this evening and pootle about a bit, but my workshop compressor broke down today, and I had to go to Bury St Edmunds and get the parts, and have been working on the repair this evening so that it is up and running tomorrow morning.
Anyway thats it for now, so here are three photos of my Polo hack recently converted from and old Universal BSO MTB.

For a few weeks the Norwich Bicycle Polo gang will be trying out the Floodlit Multi Use Games Area 100 metres from the Marlpit Pub on Hellesdon Road Norwich. The day and time remains the same: Tuesday Evenings from 6.30pm onwards. All are welcome to come along and join us. -

We couldn't get on to the Sloughbottom court last night, so we messed about on the BMX track there until about 8pm, and then set out on an expedition of exploration to find a suitable alternative. Jamie spotted the the Marlpit MUGA as we were cycling over to the North Earlahm MUGA, so we gave it a go.
Its a nice level court with good flood lighting, and a surface that encourages fast action play. Most of the fencing mesh is down to the ground, and the few spots where a ball could be knocked out of court were quickly plugged up with assorted fallen branches picked up from the adjacent bit of jungle.

Does polo still go down? Going to be home for a week or two soon, and want to know whether to bring me polo stuff back...
-
• #349
Yes, we are still playing Polo on a Tuesday evening, but its a bit hit an miss with the courts.
So each one of us goes to a separate court and whoever finds a free one claims it for polo and rings/texts the rest of us. If you would like a contact number for us, you may ring my mob: 07758 786036.
P.S. I now have the spare mtb based Polo hack resprayed and rebuilt, and it is available to borrow on the night for anyone wanting to have a go.
