Just been thinking about this.... What about booking an Air Asia flight to KL, then picking up a cheap Tiger Airways flight from KL to Brissy? That will work and it will be cheap an you could spend a night in KL.

What about the new Etihad hook-up with V Australia through Abu Dhabi? Could be worth checking Royal Brunei + a domestic flight as well.
