Man - I did mine 20 years ago, almost to the day (and still failed twice....)
Congrats!

Ha ha....

Yeah the first, the examiner was a total c%nt, he really was. The second guy lost me in a torrential thunderstorm. Cheap at least back then and you could ride whatever you liked after passing.

Borrowed a 100 cc 2 stroke for mine. It was so wet I remember the saddle as a small lake. At the time it was just a practical test of 20 mins or so. Lusted after a zthou but first off was a kh250 - used to have to reset the points every time you stopped for petrol amidst clouds of billowing 2 stroke fumes.

you could ride whatever you liked after passing.
I had to wait two years to do that and then the 600cc factory supermoto (read overweight) ripped my arms off!

Test wise, glad its over, been riding on and off for 15 years in different countries, just never had a full fat UK license. Despite the ball ache to get a UK license I don't think enough is done to give riders the skills to handle a bike properly, its all just highway code stuff, the MOD 1 love it or loathe it is a step in the right direction, but should prob have a higher speed course where riders can get a proper idea of how a bike works in corners.
Bike wise, YBR is fixed!!!! New genuine Yamaha coil turned up (none available in UK, also no clutch cables, bonkers how tricky its been to get such run of the mill components) from europe, plugged in and dada, no konking out every other gear change. Put new/old one back on to sanity test my connections and yup, within 200m konked out, new/new coil back on and working flawlessly, so defo a dodgy component.

I remember my emergency braking. I think it was 60 you were meant to to. Apparently I was nearer 100!
My quip was that at least I know how to use the brakes properly!I do agree about not enough training. I think advanced sessions over the first year once you've passed should be mandatory. One a month or so.

I want to do something like that for sure. Either that, or something track related to get to grips with high speed bike handling.
-
• #9460
Yeah, would be hard to get 'track' time or similar as part of the actual test. Most learn by doing and by experiencing and progressing their abilities in the real world, but yeah a monthly 'you have 3 things to work on, come back in a month and we'll assess you'

I was going to do rospa or iam. Rospa would be worth a look at, free service too.

I think it's nuts how complicated they've made it. The old test with an examiner following you for 40 mins and asking for a few maneuvers was more than enough to see if you can ride.

Theres a free 'biker specific' first aid course up here (scotland) which is attached to rider down I think is the name of it?
-
• #9464
Maybe I should give up riding bikes.
Just had mine stolen...
-
• #9465
Jeez. Sheesh. Sorry man.
-
• #9466
Ah fucking hell mate. The one you just fixed?
-
• #9467
Fark.
You ok, not attacked or anything? -
• #9468
Fucksake mate, bad times.
Where from? -
• #9469
Thanks guys...
Luckily no money spent on the fixing yet... Also, it was nicked from outside my office (parked) so no injuries etc.
-
• #9470
Man at least you hadn't just paid up to fix it. Still shite though.
-
• #9471
Shitbags. Fuck man, really sorry to hear this, but you'll miss two wheels. I feel for you and this unlucky streak. It's not the end though.
-
• #9472
Hope you get a ton of good luck soon.
