Ah, yes, he mentioned that. Things seems to be going alright for them, bar the lack of any drains in the new workshop...

batteries are cheap. even from halfords. Do you not ride it much or is it just very old? If it's the latter get a trickle charger and fit the quick disconnect to the bike.

Batteries USED to be cheap. Have you bloody seen the price of them lately?
-

bluequinn is loaded, i heard he restores scooters doesnt ride them then gets them restored again,,,, just because he can :-)
-
• #835
Ha ha! I've never restored the Vespa before. Just spend thousands trying to make it as quick as any other 125. Bodily it has always shown every one of its years.

good luck with the restoration. hope it turns out nice. are you having it totally stripped and rebuilt with all new nuts and bolts?

Anyone know what the new Vespa PX is like? I'm after a scoot I think, and can't seem to find any decent second hand ones.
-
• #838
Gosh, I didn't think you could still buy them. They don't have them on the Vespa website any more.
Well, it will be very slow, think 55mph, but you can kit them to 177cc or something for decent power.
They are not by any means a modern bike, and have been designed to look nice first and work well second. But they are nicer than the automatics. -
• #839
see my friend at scooterworks he has some very good ones
-
• #840
Where's Scooterworks? Believe the PX has been out of the range for a bit, but a new one is on the way.

No batteries are not cheap. Looking at at least £50 from a cheap internet source and that doesn't contain acid, and was annoying as I was supposed to take it for an MOT today. Charged it and it was fine. Now its not, grrr.
Oh and a t5 is the bestist

Hmm, just seen pictures. I reckon, judging by that 78 style horn grille that they are made by LML in India, in which case they'll probably be better quality, body and paint-wise than the crap that Piaggio were chucking out 2 years ago.
Scooterworks is in Lower Marsh is it not? or have they moved. Enid St is the other address on the google results.

I was looking at LML. Pretty tempting, but they're not a Vespa.
-

they have a cafe and bar in lower marsh and the workshop and sales are carried out in enid street. ask for craig. he's been doing this for some time and knows alot.

Bodywork done - welding, panelbeating, and respray in black. New legshield and floorboard trim. 12v lighting conversion, LED rear light conversion, and the digital speedo/rev counter to replace the original. Engine should be good but may need new rings and a hone as it has been sat, and new seals bearings and clutch. New cables, new wiring loom. Might see if I can work out a discreet way of charging an iphone too so I can have satnav. I might upgrade the exhaust, but not yet.

did you look into galvanising the body i considered it when i did a vespa once
-
• #847
Not a bad idea. How much and where?
Mind you, it's lasted till now with paint you can wipe off with Kitchen roll. The amount of 2 pack that's going on it it should last another 28 years -
• #848
Wouldn't it distort quite alot and in the end just use a high zinc content primer.
-
• #849
The new PX is apparently going to cost almost £3,000. I'd be able to pick up a decent second hand one for much less than that, right? Is there anything I should be looking out for?

That's what I am thinking. Cheaper and easier too than hot-dipping.
I'm sure he will. I know Trev from back in the day too.
