Now can you see what is wrong with this bike:
"rat bike" with new handle bars and front tyre?
I do like those R1 tails.

Cheap bindit
Regarding the;
"electric start plays up"
Is that the sort of thing that will be an expensive fix or hard to diagnose? Could just be an old battery, which would be cheap and easy.
Brake pads seem straight forward from videos I've seen online.

Electric starts work by energising a solenoid which moves an electric motor so that its gear engages with a gear on the flywheel. If it "plays up" then one assumes that it partially or intermittently works. This is likely to be a dodgy solenoid or a dodgy motor, both of which are probably a fairly easy and cheap fix, assuming access is simple. The other thing that might fix it is lubricating the moving parts and cleaning up the electrical connections.

A1 Mod 1 and Mod 2 booked for July 28, Then driving the 125cc 1000km to Switzerland on July the 30th....
Super excited!

• #7883
Wow that sounds pretty epic. How long do you think it'll take?
-
• #7884
Because I'm terrible at organising things, I have a deadline to be there on the 4th of August!
So 4-5 days, should be plenty, right? but honestly...

• #7885
You'll be fine - stay away from the busy routes if possible on a 125, good weather will help, then just trundle across peacefully.

• #7886
Remember to pull over and stretch your legs every now and again. Take a flask of coffee. Are you taking much luggage if it's a big rucksack , maybe allow it to rest on the seat rather than being carried on your shoulders if that makes sense.

** motogp spoiler alert **
nice to see rossi on the top step this weekend
he looked well in control the whole race and the last 5 laps were tense watching live, but in reality, i think we all knew rossi could and would do itlorenzo was falling away before his incident
the gaps tighten at the top, has the makings of a good season -
• #7888
lorenzo was falling away before his incident
Iannone is in the dog house. He's starting the next race from the back of the grid.
-
• #7889
after his other incidents this season a ban would be quite justified
king of the late breakers

according to Lorenzo he didn't even think the crash was his fault, first thing he did was ask Lorenzo if he'd had an engine failure or something.

Bq is right on how the starter system works, my bet is that the wire in the headstock has stretched and iif you turn the bars from side to side the bike will start.
Common bandit/motorbike issue.
The other possibilities are easy to trace and replace.

Probably doesn't need saying, but run a few extra PSI in your tyres if you are riding heavier than normal.

Rode it back again. Had to filter most of the way. Got soaked in two rainstorms, terrified myself riding on soaking motorways with terrible visibility, nearly got killed by a speeding car on a slip road and had to fuck around blowing water out of the ignition system for an hour near Hangar Lane for it to dry out again after it conked out at 40mph on the A40, just like it did the last time we went to France.
Basically, I have decided that I really, really hate motorcycling.
Sort of but not quite. I'll see if I can. Take a better pic.
@jung - that's what I thought, but I couldn't be sure.
