  • I have some HOOD jeans that are nice, pretty cheap too, and free alterations.

  • Also, congrats on the CBT. ^^

    Cheers Soul

  • Hein Gericke used to be a good mid quality option. They always appeared to have the spec of gear like Rukka but would let you down with silly things like outside pockets that fill with water. The materials used to wear in some places that would mean the whole jacket had to go. If you can face the price of Rukka new or used you won't be disappointed.

I used to visit the Hein Gericke shop in Clapham regularly, they had a huge space and hardly any customers so it didn't surprise me that they couldn't balance the books.

  • Halvarsson are really good, made in Sweden, so they know a thing or two about weatherproofing. I got some fabric trousers online from Motolegends. A mate bought a full suit on my recommendation and says he's happy with it.
They are a very friendly company to deal with, online or on the phone, but they told me I could go down to their place in Guildford and try things on if I was unsure. I'd definitely recommend them.

Second vote for Hood jeans as well. I have a pair of Kyrano long-john type things from them, which are kevlar with CE armour, designed to wear under any normal clothes. I can't seem to find them on the website, so they may have been discontinued, but they are good, if a little warm. They mean I can wear vintage belstaff trousers without worrying too much about sliding down the road in waxed cotton.

  • Had a mega day out here on Sunday on my new (2001) CR250.

Lots of sand, loose gravel and BIG hills - frankly the most fun you can have on two wheels. 45hp in a 200lb bike, off road means everything is alternatively sliding, jumping or both....absolutely mega!

    2 Strokes rule.

  • At the test centre for Mod 2. The ride was was my best ever. Hopeful.

  • good luck rusty.

if there are any hitches on the way stay calm , get back on focus and try not to let it weigh you down.

i did the opposite once :-)

  • Yep. I failed to follow the instructions for the independent ride numerous times but took every wrong turn in a safe and assertive way so couldn't be faulted for it. I also stalled twice on my Mod 2 and still passed. After every mistake, pretend it's a new test. Don't let your mistakes accumulate in your mind.

  • No joy today. Both faults were following conditions where I got pretty flustered. Felt great on the way to the test centre but did a few silly things on test. Retest won't be for quite a while now do have a few lessons in the week leading up to it. Decided at the weekend not to get a bike straight away so it's not a major set back.

  • sorry to hear it rusty. bounce back stronger and more prepared. after i failed i tried to treat every ride after as though it were a test and i used little tricks to help myself to remember things.
biggest one was remembering to turn off the indicator which i would occasionally forget. what i did was, as i turned a corner i counted to five slowly. on the five i turned off the indicator. simple but it worked for me and the satisfaction of not forgetting helped build my confidence i think.

  • ^ Do you think that would work when it comes to remembering your passport/euro tunnel ticket/ferry departure time/etc.?

  • what? and that the passport is in date/still valid?

hmmm, it could do, but i forgot to try :-)

when are we getting away again?

    overseas or inland.

  • Love the sporty naked version of this: http://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/bike-reviews/ariel/ariel-ace-road-test/?utm_source=twfb&utm_medium=social&utm_content=arielaceroadtest&utm_campaign=bikesocial#.U9i95GOTHHs

I've had a decent go on a VFR1200, taking one away for the weekend. Brilliant engine, love the sound of a V4.

  • Anyone recommend some decent dealers for a 125 scooter?

  • Not Motoden/Scooterden. Once they have your money they couldn't give a fuck.
    or any branch of Metropolis.

  • i kind of remember somebody telling me that their helmet and leathers were insured. has anybody else heard of this.
if that is correct it could be a gentle cushion to the blow when investing in the pricier end of the helmets available.

    actually just searched

  • Talk to me about a very low profile open face helmet...

I've got a Davida Jet, which I like and has done me well, but I've got a climbers build and I feel like a bobble-head on my bike. Is there anything legal that's going to be slimmer, or am I going to have to resort to some 'replica' 'display purposes only' 'novelty' Bell or something from America.

  • _________

    pricey though

And Motorcycle Giant in She Bu by the google reviews!

    absolutely lost.

    Murry Curry?!

  • Fun story - I've actually worn that very Ruby lid, which was used in the Keira Knightly / Chanel ad. It now belongs in the care of a friend called James.

They're very nice, but they're very expensive, and not much slimmer IMO. I'd have a Castel, if I was gunna buy one.

Anyone seen an Elder X-Bone in the flesh before? They look sick, but I'm reticent to order online...

  • Anyone recommend some decent dealers for a 125 scooter?

I visited ukmotorcycles1999 That's the ebay name. They are round the back of the old BBC studios opposite westfield. The main guy there was very honest in his appraisal of the bikes and they seem to know their stuff.

Good luck finding a decent bike dealer though, I've been riding bikes for 30 years and I can't remember a dealer who didn't charge over the odds for a bike. Best bet is buying a mates bike when he's already told you what's wrong with it before he knew he was going to sell it to you!

If you don't want a Bell type helmet then check out the Arai open face. It's the most comfortable lid I have and it passes a few more safety checks than the normal jet type. BMW also do one that is short from top to bottom, that might make it look less bobbly. Gorgeous bikes stock the Ruby and the better Bell ones if you want to try them out.
