  • Kuba, what are you trying to do? (if that isn't a silly question) I've got the tools, but I use a grinder to take off the head of the rivet that's about to come out. If you are using a soft link to replace the chain, you'll need the tool for that as well. And a big hammer, or spanner, depending on the type of link you're using.

All sorted now. Chain tool from Hein-Gericke worth 20 squids. New chain is driving the bike already.

  • Battery dead on monster :( Replacement nearby and cheap.

    Well a sort of win.

  • Update on this - spend your money at Hein Gericke. I know they're part of a chain, but this shop is 10/10 for service. Ask for Aitch...

Better be quick, it seems that all the shops are closing. RIP.

  • With happier news, I'm in love with my scooter again. I went to Burford via lunch in Oxford today. The A40 between the two is half dual-carriageway, half wide two lane.
The traffic was quite heavy, and doing about 55 on the normal road. I wasn't. I was passing all of it, and every single car, van and lorry pulled over to the left to let me do so. Thank you world, you're great.

  • I prefer GP week to TT, more classics about. My battery died or there would be lots more.

What scooter do you have fella?

  • First day of intensive DAS course today. Was a little concerned about riding a 500 (Suzuki GS), but totally loved it and in some respects feels a lot safer. Really felt the benefit of counter steering especially at 50mph+ which has a certain satisfaction.
Looking forward to hopefully riding once I've passed and not over acting 'life savers' ever 10 seconds.

SH300. I was swearing about it mid-service on the last page.

  • Don't over act lifesavers, just overdo them. One saved me yesterday, a surprising Nissan driven by a little old lady overtaking me while I turned right.

  • Tested the new Piaggio x10 350 yesterday and it's the best I have ever put my feet forward on. So smooth and comfy with great storage - I had an SH but found the lack of storage a problem.

    Hopefully not.

  • Spark plugs: are they the same size socket for cars and motorbike?
I need to buy a tool (spanner / key?) for my motorbike, can I get a standard one at Halfords?

    Thank you!

    Loic

  • No, there are several different sizes used on motorbikes alone. If you haven't got the tool kit's original one, you'll need some trial and error, or get the correct plugs for the bike and then go to Halfords. Standard tools sometimes don't fit the plug tunnel, which adds to the fun.

  • Balls!! Thanks for the tip!

also plugs are sometimes long or short reach.

there will always be a few alternative available though.

  • So I went to a suzuki dealer at lunch time to get the right spark plug, I may not need to change it but it was in order to get the size for the tool.
The guy tried the plug and told me I needed a 18mm socket.

I went to halfords to get a 18mm socket like this,

So I could do this (as I have ratchet thingy and extension)

But they only had 17mm and 19mm spark plug sockets, which is annoying, so I bought this for £4.99 (it looks so cheap, would really have prefered a proper socket really...):

According to the guy at the suzuki dealer, this should be long enough...

  • "So"?

  • Hien Gerricke or how ever you spell it.

I was too scared to mention I was doing my Mod 2 this morning in Enfield, but I passed with 2 minors!
Really pleased and relieved obviously and just as happy the 5 day intensive course is over. Long may the silent nights of sleep return. Anyway, it's a good day!

  • Well done!

  • "So"?

"So" nothing, just reporting that help received by gentlemen here was not in vain and that I managed to source the right stuff thanks to good advise.

  • Cheers Neil :)
