But I need another source and don't have a dedicated gps.

I had a sit on a mate's 1966 Electraglide yesterday. Looks just like how I remember James bike in Twin Peaks and sounds tremendous. Holy shit is it heavy though...I nearly strained my groin lifting it off the side stand.

Sorry, was trying to be humerous...or just trying.
Would a cabled cycle computer be better/reliable and less nickable.
A lot of the rat bikes have cheap cabled bike computers. Less to go wrong or interference.

Interesting idea, not sure how to implement it on a modern vespa, or any motorized machine. So you figure the apps are crap?
-

I used a wireless cycle computer with the fork stanchion/magnet sensor job on the trials bike. Once wheel size was set, it worked. Battery died quick and sometimes it got confused at slow speeds.

Thought that TRF had their own app as part of the subscription.
I bought OS MAPS it was more like £30 (not £20) though I think. It does snap-to on byways now, which is pretty okay.

Boss level speedo.
Compared to the app, the Vespa is about 5kph optimistic.

Standard. Most vehicles are optimistic because drivers see a 30 sign and drive 30-33, not 28.

Yeah, I was sure it overestimates but was wondering by how much. Not that the app is dead accurate, and with rounded tires, and leaning and cetera.

I'm smitten. Who knew a HD Sportster pretending to be a Bonneville / Scrambler would be this good!
I'm off to look for a cheap Sporty again...
-
• #26013
I always ask myself when I'm looking at HD's, "Have you been putting on a bit of weight recently?". The answer is usually yes!

You’d ride that once in the uk and be on eBay looking for mudguards for it.
-
• #26015
Hahaha, I think it's time to embrace the midlife crisis of it all and just get one...
That being said I think something like the above is infinitely cool... a bunch of HD parts catalogue bolt ons with skulls on them is not.
If anything I feel like it would be doing the world a good to buy one of those Dads of Anarchy bikes and save it :)
@M_V you're absolutely right... I'd definitely have mudguards on one and to be honest I'd probably lean a little more towards the Bonneville end of styling than the Scrambler end of things.
I came across this custom build too... he's called it a GB1200R British Style Custom... pretty nice job!

One more while we're at it...

I like the flat track look on HDs. Close to that pic.

• #26018
I'd have a ratty one with mid pegs or rear sets, but they are a grand on their own I think, and all the ones I see for sale are feet forward.

IMO an HD made to look British is almost as gopping as Brit bikes made into American looking bobbers.
The modern triumph bobber I always think looks like a lavvy with the rider sat on it taking a shite.
Big triumph engine in an easy rider style chop is just about acceptable.
I’m actually going to change up the look of my Matchless a bit, chunky tyres, ali guards, a bit stripped back and more nimble looking.
I’m liking this one that sold on eBay recently, it’s actually what encouraged me to keep my bike instead of selling it.

Some of those knobbly tyres are deadly cornering in the wet (or cornering at any time).

Canny be much worse than the tyre I've got on there just now, an Avon SM thing that's squarer than a brick!
Will have a look and see if there's a retro equiv of a dual sport tyre though.

That's a few evenings sorted!

Got to love a squared tyre. When you get to know the tipping point it's kind of ok.

Shinko look like a good option?
The OS maps app was the least painful I found, it has a desktop version which makes route planning slightly easier. Costs around £20 a year from memory. Keep us updated on how you get on with the TRF.
