Oof
did you hit something? Pothole? -
• #15603
Body goes right, front wheel stays in the rut and goes left
-
• #15604
Exactly. I misjudged just how deep/steep the edge was where I tried to mount it
Until that point on the other tracks I’ve been swapping ruts quite successfully for months. This one said “yea, nah” and down I went like an idiot.

Hope you're not too sore and the bike doesn't take long to fix back up.

Thanks. I was due an off, glad it was at low speed on dirt for something silly and not on the road.
Bike should be okay - it got me home so hopefully just superficial, minus the lever, headlamp bracket etc.
Probably a bit achey tomorrow, but otherwise unscathed. Very happy I’d invested in hard armour. When my shoulder hit the ground all I could think was how glad I was I couldn’t feel it.

Hard armor is the ticket for off road. Glad you’re all good, bit unlucky in the brake lever. You’ve really got to gas it out of ruts, get the weight going back. Will be much easier on the DR when that’s going!

If anyone is looking for a green ER6 which has some sensitive upgrades then pm me. A neighbour is selling, I can put you in contact.

For sure. I really gambled, thought I had shifted my weight and given it a pump. In fact I’d just asked to fall. When it came to turning the bike around shortly after, I realised just how deep the ruts were.
Biggest error in judgement was running out of quiksteel/jb-weld and not buying a new tube immediately. It was the one thing I was missing, and the only thing that could repair the Chinesium lever.
Considering the scratches to the brush guard, even thought it moved and the lever snapped anyway, I think it did an admirable job.

Oof, that looks brutal. Classic off road drop though. Done it many a time on the MTB. Glad you're good to tell the tale. Battle scars.

Very achey today I must admit. Definitely feel like I got knocked about a bit.
Headlamp bracket is well wonky. Gave it a bash to more or less forward-facing and quiksteel’d the brake lever and right indicator. Need to replace or completely remove the bracket to get back to shape.
Decided I had to get out as soon as possible to avoid the fear so went for 40 or 50 miles of B-roads and a couple hundred yards of wet mud on the first section of the Fosse Way. Very glad I did, but during the shakedown the rev counter decided to give up.
Felt very strange to ride purely by feel, and a little frustrating when so windy I couldn’t hear the engine. Glad I have the engine idling consistently.

About to pull the trigger on an R1250GS.
Early midlife crisis achieved.
If anyone is interested, I'm selling my Tracer 900GT. £7.5k to the forum which is £500 less than I'm asking on AT.

What age bmw? make sure it has had all the recalls and you have warranty.
Quite a few mates have gone to multistradas or KTM as they are more reliable.

Brand new. Not registered yet...

• #15616
Oof. The dream, but way out of budget.
1250 sounds beastly. You didn't consider the Multi 1260? -
• #15617
Or the big KTM?

Adventure R took off from the parking bay outside work earlier. Our windows rattled and most of the bike alarms went off.

Full power ranger mode engaged

^ Haha!

Multi is too top heavy (prefer the boxer). KTM is too tall (I’m 174cm).
Also I just like the look of the GS.
Also also, I got ~10% discount, a £1.5k deposit contribution and 2% lower than normal on the finance rate.
Basically makes it £140 a month with my deposit which is basically what I can get out of selling the Tracer.
Should arrive from Dundee first week of August.
Gone R1250GS exclusive TE so all the bells and whistles apart from luggage.

In celebration of consistent throttle response, dirt nap.
Broken brake lever, broken bashguard mount, bent headlamp bracket, snapped indicator, chunky lump of turf under bent mudguard. 30mph all the way home on a fast busy road with Saturday traffic and no front brake. Never again.
