Actually now both weekends are off for me. My Aunts 90th celebrations have been planned with no regard to my desire to go to France on a motorbike with you lot!
That's a shame, next time though...

So - coppi, BQ and Vello - I've looked at the options for the weekend of the 6/7 August and, despite claims to the contrary, there doesn't seem to be much difference in price between the ferry or eurotunnel (unless one of you can get more sense out of the eurotunnel website than I can). It's gonna come in at around £70 return.
If we do the ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre, we can do the overnight sailing than leaves at 23.00, sleep on the boat and get there early morning for a full day's ride on the Saturday and come back on the 17.00 on the Sunday for a late arrival back in London.
This gives us a good amount of time in France, and only need to find a hotel for one night. We also get to nice roads (IMO) quicker, say towards Saint Malo - and have the bonus of a ride over Le Pont de Normandie at Honfleur, in and out of Le Havre - [ame="http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&xhr=t&q=le+pont+de+normandie&cp=12&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1279&bih=577&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi"]le pont de normandie - Google Search[/ame]
Happy to go with eurotunnel, if one of you can get a better deal. Either way, we should probably book by this weekend, so let me know what you fancy. M

Me on right flouro nodder, (not being a fat Mod) at Cambridge Lambretta 13th November 2004 with the We Know Feck All Scooter Club boys (a club that was founded by a disparate band of insurgent troublemakers who were banned from the Lambretta Club of Great Britain forums for not taking the correct period colour of the inner bit of a Nyloc nut seriously enough and chastised by all right thinking, flask and sandwich toting, pointlessly anal and picky Lambretta enthusiasts everywhere)
A day so cold I still have nightmares about the ride home

^^ Nice! I love bikes that are in that 'used' condition. Far more appealing than restored/babied/sunday best machines.

I quite like them, I think you need an aerostitch all in one in either white or engineering blue and a plain white helmet to complete the look though.

all sounds fine to me too.
i just ducked out of a ride to berlin next wednesday as my friends are looking forward tooo much to being on the autobahn. i realised that i would be playing catch up for too much of the journey.
this jaunt sounds and feels so much more relaxing.soperRiva you do not need to stop reading this thread :-)

Yeah, Marky and I both agree that motorway riding is awful and we want to make it a nice jaunt, not a high-speed blast.

White Helmet - tick. What sensible motorcyclist does not own one. :)
80's outfit - still working on it.

Just to clarify, you can get £28 returns with Eurotunnel, this is what I'm paying now as I am going to France tomorrow. BUT as I said before it is a 48 hour trip promotion only. If you want to make the most of it is involves leaving saturday morning to be at folkestone by 5h00 am, and you can return late on sunday. The good thing in this is that you only spend 35 minutes crossing. If you tried leaving friday night with a sunday night return then it's more expensive and your Ferry price sounds definitely good / equivalent.
Now, in the context of our little trip to France, your plan is definitely better. Leaving on the friday night is good, arriving in Le Havre probably gives more options for the itenerary / better routes in France, and Le Pont de Normandie, that's really cool!
So yes to this, I won't be on the forum this WE, but if you decide to make a booking please count me on!

Anyone got an expanding bearing puller that can go down as far as 32mm? I need one to fit inside the bearing race on my swinging arm to pop them out, so the claws need to be on the outside.
-
• #1524
can you put the swingarm in your oven?
That's how I always removed bearings from my Vespa engine case. And put new bearing in the freezer to get them in easily

Right - I'll book tickets for the three musketeers in the next couple of days. Anyone else wants in, let me know by Sunday or book your own ticket.
Please be ready to pay me next week so I can feed the children.
