Yeah, but what 18 year-old ever obeys the speed limit? Especially on an R1?
-
• #1453
fair point that.
i've never been there - does anyone know why the limit is so low? -

We have those and no maximum speed limit.

My aunt and uncle live on Jersey, and even though the speed limit is no more than 40, they've always had really fast cars. At one time they had an Audi Quattro and a Peugeot 205 Gti, and they never got ragged.
It's just a status thing. Everyone is loaded, so they get expensive cars (and bikes too, I guess). I remember my uncle saying once that they had the largest number of Porsches per head of population of anywhere in the world. -

Not everyone who lives on a tax haven is a millionaire.

Granted, but the ones who are rich don't half like to show it off.

Finally fixed up my bike - new sticky rubber / wheelbearings / brakes / oil / filter and fairing / seat unit. Powdercoated wheels and sprayed tank. Fingers absolutely falling to pieces after bolting it all back together yesterday. Crap photo - sorry.

Jealous! My beemer is going to be off the road for a long long time. Everything I take apart reveals another disaster area.

I reckon they take them to the continent a lot. France is only 20 miles away.
If they don't, imagine the frustration of owning an Aston/911/Ducati/R6, etc and never getting it out of 1st gear. -

Pandora's box syndrome - I know it well. The fairing, headlight and indicators on mine are held on with around half the originally mandated fasteners as so many of the little bastards decided to snap off when I stacked it.
Tactical weight saving.
Dunlop 211GPs are interesting - very aggressive profile on the front, not ridden a tyre like that for a while!

I was reading a blog post about fairings at the IoM TT - the mechanic said they put extra fairing fasteners on because they get buffeted so much more than on a track, and tend to break off.

The isle of man circuit is a normal road, with lots of undulations. If you look for videos of the TT at tyre/road level you should see the way that the suspension really has to work hard and takes the rides have amazing chutzpah to do what they do.

Note to all there are a group going round and trying to pick up peoples bikes outside bike shops whilst they are in perusing.
There have been attempts at dobles in coulsden and Hien Gerricke at Gants Hill.
The vehicle they are using in a r reg white box transit van, pair of well built white guys early 40s.

Reviving this. Sorry to let it slip, but I've been on crutches for the past month or so. Anyway, how about either 30/31 July or 6/7 August to go to France? If we can agree one of those weekends, I'll get on with planning a route and looking for ferry/Eurostar deals.
Vote for a date (I can do either) and let's pick one. Once we do, I'll sort out the details and make bookings - so please put your name down only if you're serious about coming. Open to all above and anyone else who's interested.
