  • Oxford chains are shite, almax all the way.

  • Stick it up on on the bandit pages on facebook. Bikes seem to sell there.

  • Big syringe is cheap and a length of tube is the cheapest.

  • Didn't work for me as previous owner didn't take much care of the braking system. Also the whole vacuum kit was £12 and I can use it for everything so win win.

  • How typically dumb is it this isn't being done on a blanket vehicle basis. And that it took lobbying by MAG to even get TFL to agree that bikes that beat TFL's own emissions criteria shouldn't have to pay the charge. Wonder what happens if someone sells a bike, that they've mailed in the docs for - reckon the exemption carries across to the new keeper?

Good news for a lot of older bike owners anyway.

  • What's the hive view on moving bikes in parking bays?

Every where was rammo this morning (bit surprised how bad tbh). I spotted a small bay near my office with a couple of scooters at the end, so budged each one up to give me enough room to perch on the line.

Also just because no one else irl will appreciate my excitement, I finally got my stupid coin screwhead side cover bolt undone! Basically lots of daily plusgas squirts, followed by a bit of heat from a windproof lighter, then using my grandads old bike axel tyre lever spanner with the tip filed to the size of a coin. It's a nice thing to have as it has our surname stamped on the other side.

Even better, I discovered that the snorkel has already been removed and replaced with a bellmouth, which is apparently meant to help performances. This is great, 1) b/c it's off my tdl, and 2) explains why there's a decent roar on a full open throttle, but it's a bit sewing machine otherwise. Going to try relocating the temp sensor closer to the hole.

  • Funny thing is two strokes pass.

Mag is dead, died along while ago. Where you here for the westminster parking fee fiasco?

  • What year was that made in? I guess I’d have to pay ULEZ charge.

  • They are fucking great bikes. Look at the service intervals for the belts ;).

Loved mine, and a bit of a sprocket swap and it was a slightly taller 900 monster.

  • If I look at a spark plug and realise that mixture is a bit rich and adjust the mixture screw a bit. How long will I have to ride before I can look at the spark plug again and see if it’s better?

  • Yes and living in Westminster. So incredibly shortsighted.

  • Do you mean the pilot airscrew? That only affects the running at tickover.
About the only useful reading you can get from the plug is mixture at WOT on the main jet - there's too much noise everywhere else. You can clean the plug and do a proper wide open plug chop to see what the combustion is like there and if good, a little soot from sitting around idling is no big deal. Add another quarter / half turn out on the pilot airscrew and see if the idle rises.

  • Mostly theoretical as I’m just having fun with a pair of old plugs until the new ones arrive.
Will the soot burn off in a few minutes of riding or will it fuse into the plug marking it permanently?

  • It's a 1982 bike, not sure if that means it's in or out of ULEZ? I could probably organise delivery if it was something you were keen on though?

  • What's the hive view on moving bikes in parking bays?

Depends. I have no qualms about moving stuff if it's a heavily used bay and people take up a lot of space needlessly. I work in the city area and there's always muppets who angle bikes taking up two bikes worth of space.
Some prat the other day parked horizontally.

  • I did move over a 50cc unlocked Vespa, but wouldn’t touch big boi bikes, especially with alarmed disc locks. Too pricey/precious. Kinda dick move.

  • It's a 1982 bike, not sure if that means it's in or out of ULEZ?

I think it should be pre 1980 to qualify as “historic”.

  • I'd doubt it would pass the NOX test in that case :(

  • I doubt I’d be able to afford it in that nice state. I’ve just checked how much they go for. I’m still tied up in finance for a year for the scooter.

  • I'll PM you ;)

  • Nah, I'm all for it, quick little shuffle along along as you don't domino them all over no problem shifting bikes along

  • Not so sure that it won't pass.
