Yeah, I've got the pair. Will go and check what condition they're in.
Wheels look ok, if a bit heavy. Rose Bikes often have good prices on mtb wheels too.

Argh. Disc wheels. Maybe I'll just rebuild. What would a cheap 29er wheelset and groupset cost me? I got a KM which I've been using as a touring bike that is not longer needed to tour on.

There's mounts.
Hmm, that's pretty good. Plus £100 for wheels. Job done...
Very tempting.

• #4382
Yeah... I'm ready to pull the trigger on that actually - any reason I shouldn't?

And what about these? http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-mt15-29er-mtb-wheels-pair-77646.html

@mdcc_tester seems to rate Shimano's road wheels. I guess the mtb ones also fit in with the 'they just work well' ethos of the Japanese giant.

the Japanese giant.
Not this one

I don't know why you would know this, but is the price/stock likely to still be around at the end of the month? I could pull the trigger now, but I get a bonus at the end of the month that I could use.
-

Can't offer you any guarantees, but It's likely that somewhere will have stock by then. The bigger retailers have been competing on groupset price for some time now, so the prices should still be good.

• #4389
Thanks, man. Exciting times! I woke up with a KM working as a tourer, and by the end of the day I'll have bought a new tourer and the bits for a 29er.

So I'm doing this tomorrow. Any thoughts/tips on what to do for the KM? Double vs triple? I don't know what the difference in the rear mechs is. Or the cassettes.
Also, cheap tubeless wheels?
-
• #4392
For About £230, you can currently get a 3x10 Deore groupset ( inc brakes )
Or for £330, there's the 3x10 XT , with it's associated benefits of more adjustability, nicer shifting, lighter weight, etc...
Both amazing value imo. What's your budget for wheels?
-
• #4393
You evil man. Obviously I'm going to get xt now.
-
• #4394
As little as possible for the wheels now. I can do full wheels with tubes and tyres for a bit over 100. How much am I looking at for tubeless? (Noob)
-
• #4395
Ha, it is really nice stuff. The double version gives you a good range of gears and lighter weight again.
Double would give you a gear range from about 19-99" ( 38/24 & 11-36t cassette ) and the triple about 20-109" ( 42/32/24 & 11-34t cassette ). I don't think I'd miss that tiny bit extra top end speed.

'tubeless ready' WH-M785
M785 and MT75 are not just 'tubeless ready', they are actually proper UST tubeless rims.
For similar money in a 'tubeless ready' format but with a bit more burliness, you could build Mavic EN423 rims onto M756 hubs

Good point. Confusing my terminology there :-)

So pay day ahs come, but if I wait a few more days, and Greece continues to implode, I could potentially save a few more quids... Hmmm...

If you wait the risk of investing a greater proportion of your wages in beer increases massively, particularly with the forecast heatwave. You need to buy now before it's gone
Yeah, interested. Got a front as well? I may have a set kicking around in one of my spares boxes so I need to look tonight.
Also, should I just buy these? http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/WPOOTW29/on-one-reetard-trail-wheelset-29-inch
