Hmm, that doesn't sound so good :-/
Cheers Alkali!

My crankset on my spot is pretty much toast. The non drive side is now held on by so much torque I suspect might explode rather than losen again.
Need a 104 BCD, black, 170mm crankset.
I want it to be light, stiff, and cheap. Any ideas?
Maybe just light and stiff.

I've still got that RaceFace Deus laying about?
175mm though :-/

Dunno. All my bikes have 165mm, which I really get on with. Went with 175mm on the SS MTB for leverage. But it drives me a little nuts spinning along the road to the trail.
As I'm fixing the bike up with a mind single speed Birkebeiner. I really want to be able to spin easily.

I'd just get something Shimano then. They do make the best cranks for the money and are the easiest to set up imo.
Something like SLX or XT.

^ And stiff too. Don't forget stiff!
Probably quite important when you're a hulking great rugby playing SSer ;-)

Thats a boring answer.
Its the right answer.
But boring none the less.

It's what I do best.
You could always powdercoat it orange to make it more fun?

Fancied some Middleburns.
There really isnt a great argument for them over XT that I can think of. Other than being more interesting.
I might get some 3.8" XC tyres for the fatbike, and shelve the 29er over winter. I want to strip and rattlecan my white rims black too.
Think I'm coming out the other side of my mid life crisis.....:)

Cranks might actually be Shimano's best product class.

That and QRs.

• #4113
Yes, they definitely do flawless skewers, but QR wheels are for Pro roadies only - it's all about through axles for everybody else now.

I have 5 bikes, and only 4 QRs installed. Always found it easier with a bolt. Might convert my rear FatSno.

Finally took the Vitus for a proper ride, find it quite boring to be honest :/

Next time do some wheelies and a skid or two, it's so much more fun, bike looks good, man

oh trust me i was trying to make a large stone amusing to ride over, i was giving it everything, but ended up knackered and disappointed
*trys to avoid sexual pun

disc single speed vitus with drop bars would be fun!
-
• #4122
The main thing i notice is how long and bulky it is, it really takes a lot of effort to get it in the air, i guess that takes getting used to though? really wish it had a shorter wheelbase
i do think with some nice fat 700c slicks, maybe some drops, it would make a great commuter, not for me though

How tall are you mate?
Sounds like you might possibly be better off with a 26".
-
• #4124
Its question of preferred riding style.
I love my 29er. The stability works cor my use.

I know it has something to do with being used to a more nippy track bike.
I'm 5'7'' saddle is pretty much 'roadie' high in the photo, i did worry im to short for it
Straight pull are more hassle than Jbend spokes a there's a chance of the non nipple end turning when you tension them. They're also a right fucking pain tosource sometimes, I've got them on my ringles and they're no different than Jbend spokes aside from those couple of minimal niggles. Don't pay more for straight pull, unless you really value form over function
