  • I've got everything else I need.

  • I just need a different adapter bar to run a front BB5 on the rear no?

yes. Or a different diameter disc could work. Depends what you have in the parts bin.

Although I have a mess of adaptors on the cargo bike. Makes no sense. Lucky I have a collection of adaptors and discs.

  • @Dammit Why no BB7?

  • I've got some adapters so that's no worry.

Now- road BB5 or MTB BB5? I've used those Tektro levers with a road BB5 before and 'twas awesome, would an MTB one be more awesome?

  • @Dammit Why no BB7?

    • I'd be terrified of using a rear mech that expensive off road.

Arse. Lifes short. The amount of it you spend riding even shorter. Ride the best you can afford.

I have a shortcage X0 in the parts bin waiting to join a TT900 lever, in the job of moving my XTR chain up and down my XTR cassette.

For off-roading, and snow riding ;)

I would guess the modulation would be better MTB-MTB. But have no experiance of this.

MTB levers pull more cable, but with a little less force. So with a road caliper I'd expect you to bottom out quickly. So you engage the caliper before your done pulling the lever all the way. The MTB caliper will move less for the same cable pull, and therefore offer more mudulation. Both are OK. Using a road lever with a MTB caliper is the dodgey one.

  • v-levers and mtb caliber all the way. bb7

  • Ride the best you can afford to replace.

I'm all for paying for extra performance. In terms of shifting though, I'd spend more on the shifters & cassette. X9 rear mech is only 14 grams heavier than X0 at less than half the price. Difficult to tell with the best shifters, let alone bar end type.

    Still...... I suppose X0 is shinier :-)

    • I'm poor & envious ;-)

TBH I take so long to build a bike that I tend to get whatever is on the best offer over a 12 month period. My XO mech was at least half price. Had actually planned on a X9. The XTR cassette with chain was a bargin too. The best bit of all was finding a single tt900, rear mech, shifter, NIB, for sale on EBay. As you can imagine, not that many folk are in the market for single TT shifters. So that was bargin No 1

  • I frequently buy shiny bike components at a "bargain" price. Then start looking for a new frame to attach them to :-/

I've also forked out extra for non - performance enhancing components that cant even be seen. Titanium freehub anyone?

Although saying that, I also make sure that fork steerers & handlebar ends receive a mirror polished finish after cutting them down :-(

  • I have several sizes of Ti bolts, axles, spacers, and fittings in a parts bin.

I love to buy them as a treat on a friday. But am not always so enthusiastic with the fitting of them.

  • This is about 2/3rds of my parts bin(s) :-s ( small components )

  • Enough confessionals, moar 29er.

    Ti full susser.

  • I'd really like an El Capitan for doing mental things on. Although it could never be accused of being pretty ( or else I'd post it in the BBB thread ) Ventanas are really nicely built & come in this massive 25" size for freaks like me.

They now come with tapered headtubes too.

    Wow. Erm tidy

Everything in my workroom is in random piles. Organised using the 'closeline' method.

    Place arm on shelf
Walk to the left or right to compact shelf contents.

The only clear surface is the blue tool organiser sheet I bought 4 years ago, and still have put so much as a hook in (right of pic).

In my small office I have months and months of secret purchases. Carbon ski poles, a crankset, pedals.......etc.

I'm only allowed a fat lefty fork from Mrs Smallfurry, for Crimbo, if I tidy it though. As I bought said fork a month or so ago. I guess I'd better.

  • Wow. Erm tidy

A recent development :-) That's most of the used bits. The new bits are stashed away in the house, until I can figure out why the hell I bought them find something else to attach them to.

  • ordered this today:

and my friend is selling me avid elixir 5 set really cheap. Winter aint got shit on me now.

  • ^ Hurrah! somebody finally bought one :-)

That'll be a great bike for the Winter! I've no experience of those tyres? You can only try them out & see what they're like though.

  • I'm a noobie in mountainbiking, so cant really tell. If they feel light and dont puncture that well it is fine for me.

Probably going to get nokia 2.1" with studs for the front if it gets really icy in couple of months.

  • I don't mind sliding about in the mud ( I love it ) I mainly try to avoid tyres that clog up & become really heavy.

  • Boom! No one else bid please.

I think that request may have had a limited audience ;-)
