I'm considering getting a frame that's built for 29" wheels.
This frame will probably have been built with a 470mm A-C fork in mind though. If yours is 440mm, thats a 30mm reduction. Assuming 0.5 degrees head tube angle effect per 10mm. You'd be steepening your head tube angle by 1.5 degrees. Which is a lot.
Thats^kinda guesswork. But it makes an important point.

Not tried that myself. Seems to have worked out ok here using 26" fork on a 29er.
That does look the dogs balls though.

Any idea of how much that would lower the BB?

15mm?
Massive guess. but its 0mm effect at the rear hub, and 30mm effect at the front. So its going to be something near that.
I like loww BBs. Worth the hassle of more frequent pedal strike (or having to be more careful).

Cheers, that has some logic to it. Don't think I'll be trying it anytime soon though.

Low BBs are good, up to a point.

I was just about to post it until I turned the page. I'll post it anyway, this shot shows the clearance a little better.

^ Your bike struck me as a good example. Looks really good.
Are you still on the original gearing?
-
• #2911
thanks.
36x16. too spinny for the last alleycat and too heavy for going up stairs, but quite good for most things in between. -
• #2912
Looks like it'd be great fun to tear around on.
-
• #2913
^^ About 65" then. Sounds about right.
-
• #2914
The tyres are huge, nearing 60c, did you add that to your calculation?
-
• #2915
I only did it quick on an online calc. Only went up to 56c.
So yeah, it'll be a bit bigger than 65"

It is extremely fun set up as above (minus a few spacers) but most of the time the bars are the other way round and there's a child seat behind the stem. thats very fun too in an other way.

Have we got a thread for frame geometry?
I had a quick search but could not find one.
The reason I ask is because I am thinking of getting a "bike of everything" built, i.e. something you could race CX on, then bang mudguards on it and ride through the winter, etc etc.

Never noticed one. Don't people normally just ask furry or tester geometry stuff? I'd certainly find it useful.

Btw, I will be in the market for a nice pair of ss 29er wheels. I'd like something light and/or wide.
anybody have a set or know of a good offer? -

Price?
Otherwise the standard answer appears to stan's rims on hope pro 2 hubs.
-
• #2921
oh, yeah. cheap. like used hope.

I was looking at these a while back.

thanks. nice light and cheap. do you know if they do a single speed version though? I'd want a non dished rear to use as flip flop.
-
• #2924
Hmm... Not that I know of. I liked the fact that they used a steel freehub that I could use for single speed conversion.

Do you mean custom frame?
If so. Do you mean built by a decent builder?
If so. They'll know a shite load more than some nerds on a bike forum.
Other than that, look at bikes you like the handling of.
