I like the wheels, and cant justify replacing the blunts. Might strip and rattle can. Dunno.
better sell them and build a new set.
what do you want for them? -

Needs these.

what do you want for them?Tricky to sell up here, and pricey to post. They are Hope Pro IIs, laced with a mixture of revolution and supercomp spokes, to velocity blunt rims. They are about as light as a 85Kg rider can go. I've drilled out the valve hole to go tubeless too. I love them. I've just gone off the white powder coat on the rims.
Needs these.
I was looking at the SpotBrand crankset. Definitly a black one. Do like the deux though.

Spot one looks nice. Black does look good....
Just doesn't age as well. If I remember rightly, you've got the Atlas cranks on your.....
...oh :-/

Thats the thing. The fat bike is front of the budget queue.
Need brakes, and a seatpost. Then I want pogies, a massive saddle bag, and a frame bag. The 29er rides sweet as is, and is very light. I'm not keen on throwing money at a functioning bike. Garish white bits or not. New saddle, and grips, and then I may do some home mods on the rims and cranks.

With some patience ( you clearly have plenty of this ) the cranks & rims could be stripped & polished. Is there a clearcoat for alu that protects it well.
Clear powdercoat?

Apparently yes.

contemplating this

but the chainrings would probably need replacing for a 32 and then sprocket be required
though what gearing are others using ss for offroading?

or
has right chainring but would need bashguard

Pretty sure I'm running 55". Which together with crank arms that are theoretically 13mm too long, is fecking horrible on the road.
Off-road it rocks though. I learnt to ride off-road as a kid, when I pretty much owned a BMX throughout my whole childhood (hence my distrust of gears). Once up to speed you cant spin the cranks at a constant smooth cadense alla roadie. You give small intense spurts to keep your speed up. Much like riding a BMX. Then when you hit a steep section you can grunt up it.
So 32:17 for 55". But I'd be tempted to go lower 32:18 maybe.
Suck it and see.

I'd get a dedicated SS chainring too to be honest. It'll last better and is less likely to drop the chain. Homebrew-components are a one man outfit in the US. They do some lovely single speed gear, and offer great friendly service, although turnaround can be slow.

What with XT cranks getting uglier & more expensive every year, my next set was going to be SLX.
I'm rather liking the look of these now.
Give this one a go James. Then you can let me know if it's any good :-)

^^^ Another vote for 55" (36 x 19)

Can you get pre built wheels with the Hope trials hub? Much better suited to SS.
Edit - Just read the basket contents, so yes you can & indeed have.

• #2818
Have you ordered from active sport before? I've read some pretty poor reviews of their service. Not had experience of it myself.

s'what I have. More contact points, and zero dish. -

I'm currently using my old Hope XC Ti. It's withstood ss abuse very well.
Wish they still made them :-(

34x18 was my preferred SS gear on my twenty niner. 34x16 fixed.

34x16 fixed.
Mentalist ;-)

I'm certainly not getting into the fixed off road debate again. :]
-
• #2824
I imagine it's quite good for some slow techy bit's. I think I should probably try fixed on road first though!

At the end of the day it's just another way to have fun on a bike and add a bit of variety to your riding.
Sorry guys, I'd love to show a few of you the best bits of the forest. I just won't be around that area for a few months :-(
Finding the good bits isn't too difficult. The tricky part is knowing exactly where they all are & being able to link them together.
