Yep I bought the frame when they had one of their mini sales but don't have the forks yet. Next month will be forks or disk brakes. Are you still thinking of a building one then?

yeah i am still toying with the idea, tempted by this bargain though http://www.buybikesnow.com/304/Haro-Mary-SS-Singlespeed-29er-Mountain-Bike---Limited-Stock.html?referrer=froogle&utm_source=google&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=pid304

If you can find an off the shelve bike you like it's always better value. I just have enough things that I want diffrent that it's worth me building my own up. It will take me ages as I buy the bits though! I think I may be close to completion in two more months.

cool throw up a picture when it's done!

Tommy, what disks are you after? I ask only as I have a spare front Juicy7 at home that's been sat in a box for way too long.
-
• #283
bb7 ideally, (Luddite I know) I want to stay mechanical.
-
• #284
Totally understandable, I use a BB7 myself (That's why the Juicy is going spare).
Bear it in mind as a free gift if it'll get you up and running any sooner. You could change to a BB7 when you have more funding and then pass this on to the next needy rider.

I've got one, can't recommend it enough. Just make sure you know what you're getting yourself into using a fully rigid bike ;)

Doesnt say on that link. But doesnt that Haro have an EBB? Thats the only bit I wish I had on mine. Anyway at that price there just is'nt a thing wrong with that bike.
FWIW I'm loving my Hope mini X2 pros. The modulation is better than anything I've used before. Set-up was pretty easy, and the 140mm rear disc seems too work nicely too. Defo a hydrolic convert.

I'm thinking to put hydrolics on my Salsa.

I cant recommend them enough.

I took the Spot out a bit too soon really, as winter still had a hold on the North side of the mountians. But the streets were clear and I was too excited to wait. Riding down a steep section of loose gravel I noticed that, as the trail turned left, at the bottom of the hill, everything was still covered in lumpy ice. Must confess to being a bit scared, as slidding off the trail would have resulted in going off a nasty drop. I managed to scrub far more speed than I usually can on this hill, and was able to hit the ice already turned in, and riding in a straight line. The easy modulation of the brakes really helped me out there. I think I'll give it a few more days before going back though.[/Self endulgent posting] -

The hydraulics on my Mather are dreamy, incredibly powerful things.
That said, whilst the front hasn't lost any power, the rear has weakened slightly. These are hopes too, and I suspect there's a leak somewhere. Even with the weakening in the rear it's still a very confident stop.

It certainly does, that was the main factor in me choosing it over the Kona Unit, even though the Unit was reduced by £200. Agreed that for that price, you really can't go wrong, I got mine for £415 just after xmas. Bargain!

I bought a pair of Juicy Carbons for my Mary, I honestly don't think they're as good as the BB5s that came with it, i've went back to the BB5s now and am much happier with them.

S'pose brake feel is a personal taste thing. I've never had anything against mechanicals myself.

Now, there I was yesterday, mounting ExiWolf 2.3" tires on my pretty much standard Focus Black Falls 29'er, when I realized that the tires are too big for it... damn' fucking shit.....
Anyway, I have been annoyed with it having a useless front suspension fork for some time now, and the geometry seems a bit wack as well.. So I started thinking about replacing the frame with a Surly Karate Monkey or something like that..
Are you people riding those things still happy with them?
I kind of expect that I'll be able to move the current parts from the Focus to the Karate Monkey without too much trouble.
- Deore LX gear gruppo, (shifters, derailurs, cranks, hubs)
- HS33 brakes
It should work fine with a quickrelease on the rear wheel when running geared right?
I'm 5'11 and normally ride a 56cm frames road or track.. Based on google I guess I'll fit a 18" 29er frame?
Any other suggestions than a Karate Monkey?

18" sounds about right, but top tube lengths vary a lot on 29ers, so you need to be a bit careful.
Loads of 29ers here.
http://www.lfgss.com/thread11107.htmlCant go wrong with a karate monkey though. Plus Salsa have a nice range too. But if I had'nt found my Spot frame on Ebay, was set on getting a Vassago Jabbawocky

Looks good too me. Not such a fan of the rear brake cable routing that way, don't know why, probably just not used to it. I wonder why there is an extra support between the seat/chain stays on he left side only... extra force while braking?

That is what I want for Christmas. It's a new cyclo-cross steel beauty, made by all-city.
Allow me to drool.
That's where I ordered my tyres from WTB exiwolf, I'm sure they will do me given the the tyres I'm accustomed to., might buy a front weirwolf at some point, need to get the bits for the rest of the bike though first!
