  • Nice. I was looking at a thermometer for the fat bike. Areas in constant mountain shadow, near frozen lakes, and/or cold air collecting valleys*. Can be up to 20 degrees colder. So a thermometer is nice to have on a snowbike.

  • Mine is a stemcaptain too....less need for a thermometer here though. :]

  • I suspect I'll just use my Bryton Rider 35. That way I can log temp and elevation. As well as have a live display.

    They are nice though.

  • Can I join the thread with this effort?

  • Love the bike JC. Looks like a fast'n'fun whip.

    That blue seatpost?

  • Is that a 69er?

  • Bike handling to a new level:

  • On One Carbon 29er fork for £112.50 down from £149.99 with code UK25BITS

also 29er on one dropout frame for £168.75

  • I'm going to try this baby the coming days.
Unfortunately, I don't have that much time and have to return it before the weekend.
My first 29er experience after several 26" MTB and CX.

How did the test go? Is it worth the extra dorrahs over the Cobia?

  • Cotic Solaris 931.

    Want

*Reynolds have been working on a new stainless steel tubeset to sit under their uber-strong and light 953 products. It's called 931. It's basically a similar strength to 853, but stainless. It's a little cheaper than 953 and Reynolds and our factory (who are partnering with Reynolds as builders) were keen to show us what it could do, so I had them build me a Solaris shaped frame. *

    Pretty, isn't it?
Because it's similar strength to 853, it's not that much lighter than a Solaris as you have to use similar sections, so you basically save the weight of the paint. This has a 32mm seat tube/27.2mm seatpost whereas the Solaris has our new 35mm/31.6 seat tube/seatpost combo, but there's not a deal different in the weight of those. This also has a regular 1 1/8" head tube as they don't have material in 931 big enough to do a 44mm head tube, so that's a bit lighter. Overall the frame is about 0.5lb lighter than a Solaris, so around 4.4lb in large. The kicker unfortunately is the price. Even though 931 is lower priced that 953, this would still be a £1,200 frame. Given that it's not loads lighter than the Solaris, it doesn't have much going for it apart from being massively pretty.
*So, no plans to make them (unless at least 30 of you stump up deposits!!), but something very nice to look at. *

  • Purdy.

  • Did someone, possibly Ed, link to oversize P clips for fitting rack to a 29er please?

  • I've used a couple of cateye rear light brackets in the past.

  • Just to answer a few questions regarding 29ers please....

Still get the frame size I would for a 26" wheeled mountain bike yes?

And expected weight of a cheap rigid ss with disc brakes bike? 17" frame or there abouts

Reeeeeally want one of these once I've got my downhill bike sold, would be perfect for taking the trail to work and blasting to mates' houses on I think :D

  • Don't remember if I ever posted a picture of my beast!?!

Its a custom frame, designed by me, made by Marino, Peru.

  • I'm looking to buy a ss 29er: http://www.lfgss.com/thread84952.html

Please let me know if you see a good offer somewhere.
    Thanks

  • For the price it's a good bike. Coming from a BMX background I seem to find jumps and gaps out of anything and this bike has taken a lot of abuse. Be prepared to change the rear wheel out/ freewheel as it is crap. Contact points are horrendously uncomfortable as well.

  • Had this on test for the day! Loved it, even though it was the wrong size had the wrong tyres and the sram gearing was the most annoying thing ever.

But the bike was so so fast. I think it will do me well for the odd race i have planned this summer!

  • Looks like fun

  • hope your going to wash that before bringing it back guy

  • I wanted to stop this thread from disappearing, as I'd been lurking around it for some time, so....

24" Surly Ogre, found on Mtbr. Hoping to get one these ( same size ) around the end of June. Will most likely be doing a similar build to this one.
Ordered it around mid January, because Ison Distribution weren't ordering many into the country in behemoth size.
