POCs are nice, but beyond my budget. Tried the Urge on, the L/XL fits comfortably, the S/M was too snug and would be too hot in the summer.
So I'm done.
-
• #2303
Where did you try them on?
-
• #2304
That place I linked to in Surbiton.
They were too pricey in the shop otherwise I would've got one right there, but knowing that the size is right I can order online now.
The black/white colours look like they're supposed to be US highway patrol police helmets. Avoid that colour scheme... unless that's a look you're going for.
Oh, and it was incredibly light, and really comfy too. Was worried about the lack of rear compression straps, but because it cups the whole head rather than just sitting on top it's fine... virtually no movement at all. The air holes in the 2012 version are bigger than they look in the images too. So that removes my other worry.
Fits fine, I don't look like a total idiot. Job done.

I'll get the gold one with red flash, hell yeah.

(All colours are ugly, but this has a certain Elvis TCB about it.)
-
• #2306
Damn, that's ugly. Hope you have an equally nasty colour scheme for your bike. And poorly matched off road clothes. In for a penny etc.

I was considering a pink jersey, the knitted Aran wool chunky kind.
-
• #2308
Apart from the wool part sounds perfect.

I need a ski helmet. I'll be using it for winter cycling too. Just havent gotten round to getting one yet. POC were top of my list, if I can find somewhere to try one on.
-
• #2310
Hmm, maybe I should ask them for review ones?
-
• #2311
how about going for something like this offering from pro-tec
lots of back of head padding, and though it's dense foam, originally designed for skateboarding, a lot of riders swear by them
-
• #2312
I'm currently wearing a fleece buff, with a road helmet, which itself has a Campag cover thingie on, for all my winter cycling.
Seems stupid not to just use a ski helmet. More comfort and more protection.
Maybe I'll pick one up when I order my Blizzard Bonafides. The 29er of the skiing world ;)
-
• #2313
I've asked POC if they could give you a Receptor+ http://www.pocsports.com/en/product/1211/receptor
Let's see what they say.
I'm nowhere near as cheeky with getting items for review as I should be.
-
• #2314
ohhhhh. cheers!
I'd use it for all of the following. So should be able to give a rounded review. Especially considering how much I fall off stuff.
Winter cycle commuting
MTBing
Snowboarding
Skiing
......and eventually fatbiking ;) -

Wouldn't get POCs until late March at the very earliest.
New ones haven't arrived with UK distributors yet and the distributor doesn't want the older ones reviewed as they're just clearing stock on that.

Bern Watts with winter liner is the best all weather helmet outside of teh POC's, IMO
http://www.bernunlimited.com/Products/Helmets/Watts?helmetType=Snow
I have used mine everywhere from - 20 in the Rockies, to a hot day offraoding in the surrey hills. They do other helmets without the peak if you dont like that look
Pro Tec's are built like shit

Still ski season here. I may be set-up for Alpine touring/all-mountain skiing by then. Which sounds like a fun addition to my 'ways I hurt myself' list.

As a climber I strongly advise you NOT to use a climbing helmet for anything else than climbing as most of them are only padded against threats coming from straight above. Nothing on the sides, or atleast nothing on my previous black diamond or the petzl im using now.

I'm going to try this baby the coming days.
Unfortunately, I don't have that much time and have to return it before the weekend.

What tubeless sealant are people using? I've heard good things about 'wheel milk', any others are they all the same stuff?
-
• #2321
How about real milk? http://roadtubeless.blogspot.com/2011/04/milk-makes-for-best-road-tubeless-tire.html
Or make my own?
1 part Latex mold builder
1 part Slime tubeless
1 part cheap antifreeze
2 parts waterSome people are suggesting glitter as it plugs bigger holes in the tyres, sounds advanced...
-
• #2322
I'm using stans and have had no issues (not on tubeless rims), supposed to change every 6 months, 12 months on and only a small top up added about two months ago. I'll do it properly soon. My brother uses the milk and again has had no problems, he has proper tubeless rims.
Smallfurry will be all over the glitter thing.
-
• #2323
MTBR is suggesting 2 parts Stans and 1 part Slime as Stans have changed one of the ingredients. Will probably go for this as I want all the puncture protection I can get.

Considering how much of mine landed all over walls of my Lab. After a compressor 'incident'.
I'm glad I'm not.
Homebrew is great though. Especially if you have a couple bikes to do. Just make a gallon and store it.
I work with polystryene beads, produced via suspension polymerisation, and then sieved. So my homebrew plan involved deisgning my own particle size profile (uber nerd). Homebrew appealled tome, for the ability to tune viscosity, for extra low temp use. But my fat rims have shite bead locks. So I'll not bother with tubeles on the fatbike.

Treated the Merida to a little present. Bet I still get lost. :]
Should add that other companies do the MIPS system, just that if you compare a POC to another helmet you will see the quality difference
