if we don't have one now, why will we HAVE to have one in the future?
exactly. A cross bar stops the fluidity of riding through the cones, reaching above, forcing your bike in to block the goalie, etc...

Deciding whether a ball went in the goal, in many cases, is too imprecise without a crossbar.

it's pretty insane to not have a crossbar when balls are being shot at goal height. there are many precedents.
i don't feel riding through the goal is enough of a reason not to have them. as long as the crossbars do not injure players that do ride through the goal, then i would vote for them.
i'm sure it wont happen anytime soon, and even when it does probably only for tournaments or league games maybe, but it makes a lot of sense to use them.

What about trying them out on the throw in tourney on the 2nd? No great loss if they don't work out as nothing is at stake.
-
• #31
i'd be up for it, but who would be able to make them?
-
• #32
Wilko sell 2" pvc piping for a few £, a few lengths of that and a roll of gaffa tape and a saw should do just for the day. I'm sure a whip round will easily cover the cost.
-
• #33
well you might have some opposition but i think it's worth trying, we need to have fore matching cones though.
-
• #34
As long as they're hopping height it's not a problem right?
-
• #35
No hop, no goal.

• #36
No Amsterdam, no tournament.

I dont think there's enough space behind goal to try this at downham as the court is pretty small already, probably end up spending most of the time reseting the goals... I reckon newington would be a better court.

(or similar)May be a good idea. Need to get one that has a visible laser.

Lasers are only visible if they have something to reflect off, you'd need a dry ice machine around the goal too, which would be cool.

How about something like this:
http://www.sensortags.com/
tag the ball, shorten the sensor towers and you've got a standardised goal size and way of detecting if the ball goes between the post.Disclaimer: I know this is never going to happen.

Honestly, how many times it it a problem? Yesterday, there was only one call that was a bit dubious, out of 18 games.
Putting a cross-bar in will significantly change game-play, as we will no longer be able to ride through the goal - and every time the posts get moved, the cross-bar will either get displaced, or, if the bar is permanently fixed to the posts, the whole goal will fall over.

if crossbars dont happen, then goal posts that dont flick the ball above cone height should happen. The amount of shots that are actually going in between the cones that hit the base and get deflected skywards is a problem. that is where most of the dubious calls come from, not from straight shots that are too high. imo
its a bit like marking the floor and goal width... but upside down.
