  • Is he running a dinglespeed?

no just a short close block and both chainrings are pretty close so with a couple of tools he has a few gears if really needed. Co. Down is very hilly

  • I like the snow, the refrozen slush not so much.

  • Don't eat the yellow snow!

  • Don't eat the brown snow!

Had a near nasty car crash this morning. Driving out of town to meet the family, I entered a corner too fast. The car started to slide onto the other side of the road, and I panicked and steered too hard back in. My front wheels momentarily griped some bare tarmac, and throw the car up the meter high snow wall, at the side of the road (left by the snow plough). The car continued along the top of the snow wall for some 10-15 meters, before dropping into an opening (ploughed for peds to cross the road), and then stopped sharply, as it collided side on with the start of the next section of snow wall.

The inital skid was terrifying, for a split second I was accutely aware that my life was in my hands. But once the car had taken off, I felt the total loss of control remove the responsibility from me. I actually felt calm, kind of liberated, happy in the knowledge that I did'nt have the kids in the car.

Spent an hour digging the car out, and apart from a few dents, its in pretty good shape. Me too for that matter. Bloody shaken up now though.

    Be careful out there kids!

    I need a beer.

  • Glad you're OK.

  • Glad you're OK.

    Cheers.

Shock has dissipated, and I now just feel stupid.

I've entered that exact corner too fast many times before. I should have considered this long before I reached it. I'm also well aware that to recover from a skid, you need to momentarily steer into the skid. I just did'nt react that way.

Cycled in this morning, and if I'm honest, was still a bit scared of the road to start with. Soon settled in though, and got back to enjoying the dry weather we're having.

  • Coventry and Warwickshire is not the north!

Seems to be a good little company though, good at self-promotion, have seen them on the Midlands BBC before.

They have been eating their HTFU bars oop north:

  • Its north of me, so for me: its the North.

  • north of watford gap = north.

  • north of the thames = north

  • Update : wet snow & no ice on the embankments into the City..... no problems even with (shit) Gatorskins

  • it's snowing again, innit?

rode from crystal palace to marylebone at 6am via herne hill, brixton, stockwell, vauxhall, victoria, marble arch. it was actively snowing during the ride.

between cp and brixton it was sketchy. no clear road but doable in tyre tracks. lost grip a couple of times. after that where there was more traffic, the roads were slightly clearer but still had to stay in tyre tracks in most places.

biggest problem was glasses steaming up and not being able to see!

be careful out there peeps. and remember - no leaning.

  • Looks like another day of snow in Hemel... we need SPD Wellies !

  • am about to leave for westminster from stockwell. i will not be leaning.

  • No Trains, No Buses, road closures, and a 22mile ride into the wind? Don't think so.....

  • Its north of me, so for me: its the North.

north of the thames = north

At 'Home park' (Plymouth football ground) we used to sing 'you dirty northen b*st*rds' to the Exeter supporters.

Yesterday, I was discussing the winter chaos 'down south' in scottland and Denmark at lunch.
    Bloody soft sotherners ;)

Its all relative I guess :)

  • How the hell does it keep snowing? I thought it was meant to be getting warmer?

I want to ride my bike in a little more comfort without worrying of falling off and freezing to death before someone discovers my body!

  • My god.. it's another fucking snow thread.
