  • Friction is easy to mis-comprehend. Once you overcome it's gone.

In theory it's easier to slide down the side of a escalator moving against you than than one moving with you.

  • this guy got run over and he walked it off.

YouTube- Miracle Ice Man Walks Away From Getting Run Over

    Christ all-fucking mighty!

Why didnt the driver hoot? What a absolute wanker

  • Because the car only just went out of control within second before hitting him (see the tyres mark on the road).

  • But you can see the car swerve before he hit him, i reckon thats more than enough time to use the horn.

  • I question wether it's real. The shot pans onto the guy walking just before it all happens and it has a funny look about it, esp. when he gets hit. But then again who cares

  • it make sense if you're on a bicycle - ditching it as soon as possible to reduce harm on your person.

but when it come to cars, going slowly, on a *slight *slope, sheer stupidty.

it only make sense if the cars is going silly mile per hours toward a cliff that you've no way of stopping, then naturally you should ditch it.

I hate it when people step on it like there's no tomorrow, as if that'll create traction, and it's worse in London where people came from countries where snow isn't in their language.

Lot of Eastern Europeans in London who have to put up with snow year in year out. Thats where I learnt the hard way 400 miles with snowflakes the size of milk bottle tops ;p

  • Didn't want to bog down by creating a new thread but my mate countered the icy conditions by making his own snow tires. back home in the country lanes it's like glass and he said he didn't slip once with these

just drilling the tires and adding bolts/screws, awaiting info on how he protected the tube

  • 'Tyres'...

Strip cut from old tyre ?

  • Since they're screw, and the head is rounded, I find using those rubber for repairing puncture does the trick.

obviously the drawback is needing a lots of them to cover all the screw.

  • Strip cut from old tyre ?

I reckon a strip of old inner tube (lighter) plus some silicone sealant to stick it down / offer some more protection.

  • It's slippery over in Ireland too apparently...

  • I was cycling past a bloke, he fell and shouted "Mothercunt!"

Now that something I don't heard everyday.

  • I haven't fallen over yet. In Bournemouth there seems to be a heat spot that stops us from getting snowed in (we had a slight covering).

However slipped over while walking to the coffee shop at lunch .. . can barely walk managed to fall just above my coxis.... not very pleasant.

it's used a lot in trinidad

  • i was just driving home n saw some guy sliding across the road, feet going all over the place on the ice, he was going for the traffic light to grab on, about a foot away he went arse over tit and face planted hahaha

  • i love the way the weather forecasters say that the UK is colder than the antartic today ... it is summer down there ffs what do you expect

    Is he running a dinglespeed?

  • How about if theres a T junc at the bottom of that little hill withbuses/lorries ect
traversing cars path......Do the right thing and stay in the car, slide into traffic,
or Bail.....as your motor is goin anyhow(in this case) might as well save yer skin no.?
    .................M

save your skin, and endanger the lives of others.

what if the road is less icy before the junction and you could have regained control?

  • save your skin, and endanger the lives of others.

what if the road is less icy before the junction and you could have regained control?

was just an light hearted interpretation of scenario......however if my car was
about to slide into oncomming traffic on a dual carriageway say.....I sure would'nt
go down with the ship.....would you...?

  • firstly, i wouldn't be driving if that were likely to happen.

secondly, the traffic would probably be going quite slowly because of the conditions, and there wouldn't be much traffic.

thirdly, i would be beeping my horn like fuck and trying to do everything to regain control, the dual carriagway would probably be ice free and so provided no car was coming towards me i would be able to get out of the way rather than sending an obstacle into the middle of the road.

  • here's an old one

    YouTube- Car pile-up on ice

That one's been cut short. Eventually a copper turns up to see what the problem is and he does the same into the back of the line of cars.

  • 4thky its a dual carriage way so it would have a verge and its unlikely you could hit oncoming traffic.

One of the guys doing that laced two rims to his front hub and rigged the forks to attach to the inside.
