The two I posted are for climbing/alpinism rather than skiing. Bit light on pockets but basically the same thing. Generous cuts for layers and arm flexibility...

@Stonehedge @chiroshi cool so I'll perhaps get away with my existing jacket (which has a helmet compatible hood) if I can layer up enough under.
-
• #729
If you've got room for a few layers including a light down underneath then it will be absolutely fine.

also, skiing shells are usually about 50% more expensive because... skiing

When I fucked my knee last month, it took about 60 minutes to get me to the hospital. Was very glad indeed to have room under my shell for my down. Being in a bit of pain, in the snow, in <26 degrees C for that time was no fun.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. That said, down works just as well on top of a shell as it does underneath (unless it's raining). Which way round looks more dorky depends on the kit ;)

I didn't actually mean to reply to you. Was just making a boring post about how glad I was that I had enough layers.

Yep, that’s the area.

Broke two bones in my left leg in andorra today, powder was unreal but got a bit stuck in some extra deep Ending in a boot the rotated freely of my leg.
Yeah, grim.
Mountain rescue were amazing and im booked in for surgery tomorrow, praise lord for morphine

Wishing you a speedy recovery

Double break in the leg sounds nasty. I pre-released out of my bindings at about 80kmh at the weekend. Had an xray and now booked for an mri tomorrow on my spine. It's always worrying the doctor looks at a scan of your spine and says 'errrrr, have you broken it before?'. It looks mega wonky on the xray, no sign of any fractures but a possible herniated disc. Back protector duly ordered.

yeah the rocker is pretty intense. They have been fine in powder and then crude, although there's a bit of chatter in the crude. Still, had them at a decent speed down groomers, they ain't gonna compete with downhill skis but fine for a 1 quiver I can't be bothered to carry 3 sets of skis thing.

almost all gear in the US is layer based. My ski jacket is just a shell, I wear 2 or 3 layers underneath it. Was in Whistler a few weeks ago, snow was ok.

Really sorry to hear that. Hope the morphine continues to do its job.
By the way, you might want to make sure you take a mild laxative or a couple of tablespoons of olive oil every day. Morphine can bind you up something chronic.

Lovely stories here.
I'm back off to Chamonix today for 3 days. never been away with so little gear. Pretty liberating.
I've got 2x pairs of boots to get rid of:
Head Edge 105 - 28.5 (uk10) - done approx 13 days- some marks but in good condition. Adjustable last width 104-102. Good for someone with a higher volume foot. Very comfy boots, but too soft for me.
Yours for £50Nordica Ace of Spades - 27.5 (uk9) - done approx 20 days. Great boots. Absolutely hideous and a bit roughed up, but still loads of life in them. Last width is 99-ish. Awesome progressive flex, which tops out at 120. Also nicely cushioned for park bumps and cliff drops.
Yours for £freeI also have a slightly battered pair of 120 Salomon Patrol poles, yours for £free.
I'll post the Heads at cost, but the free stuff is collection only.

Yeah, I'm off to Chamonix tomorrow as well for a week - these stories are bringing down my excitement level somewhat, but big +1 on the olive oil - have had the morphine bung before, and you don't want a Renton experience.

No Verbier Freeride tomorrow, looks most likely to be Monday which means I won't get to go up and watch it. Booooo. Especially annoying as it would be awesome to see the local(ish) boys Yann Rausis and Sam Lee battle it out for podium spots on their rookie year! Snow doesn't look great, but not too bad considering the season we've had. Better than 2015 for sure.
Pretty much that, just minimal feature like somewhere to put your lift pass, generally a slightly looser fit, helmet compatible hood, higher collar to keep out that chilly wind...
