  • Just caught up with this thread. :(

    RIP.

  • Just to reiterate, no date for the Funeral is yet set, Please don't hassle DJ!

oh and *** NO FLOWERS ***, Paul hated them.

  • so nice to of known you paul. i still remember a few weeks ago when you rocked up to wests, despite in obvious pain, yet the first thing he was asking about was how i was going with running since stopping cycling. will always remember you for thinking of others and with a smile on your face!

  • London to Cambridge, 2008

this is a good example of why Paul was a mascot and a legend for the forum.. the story behind this photo is that seven of us hooked up in the last weekend of October to ride to Cambridge on what we had hoped was the last day of summer. It turned out to be the first bleak day of winter. You can see Caleb is freezing his tits off. Me and jimbilly bailed about 30 miles in cos of knee problems that the biting cold winds weren't helping. We took the train to cambridge and got some beers in and waited for the others to come. Caleb, Crispin, SJ and Lebowski arrived a couple of hours later frozen to the bone and said that Paul was on his way.. which was obviously a bit concerning now it was getting dark. But Paul had felt he was slowing the group down too much (which he was) and as the weather was too cold to be hanging around he had told everyone to carry on and he'd make it to Cambridge at his own pace. An hour later he appeared at the window of the pub and he came in grinning to cheers.

The reason he had found it hard going was that it was the first ride he'd done out of London since he'd been out of hospital after he'd got run over. We only realised when we got to Epping and we couldn't send him back home.. he was determined to do the ride to put it all past him.

    Cheers to Paul!

  • Have only just caught up with this. What dreadful news. But I'm sure Paul is happy and pain-free now. I'm so glad I got a chance to see him before Christmas. What a truly wonderful man he still is. Someone should finish off the Moser for him, he was saying it's 99% there. Much respect to those supporting him, who've made his last moments memorable and more bearable. Love to you all but big love to Paul.

  • Well done Jimjams for that story. I think it just about sums up the essence of Fiddy; concern for the welfare of others, absolute resolve to finish a ride, and a cheeky smile and kinds word throughout.

    Gone but never forgotten.

  • Very sad news.
Only met Paul a handful of times but he always seemed to have a smile on his face and a kind word.
    A true gent.

    RIP

  • Extremely sad news, best regards to all of Paul's friends and family.

  • God. Just looked in for the first time in a while. What terribly sad news.

RIP Fiddy. A truly lovely person. You will be missed, but always remembered.

  • RPM is busy on Wednesday

Who else has a van and can act as a driver on Wednesday?

  • I have a Vauxhall Combo, What sort of time? I am free after 16.30.

  • I have a Volvo estate but will not be able to make it to the Hospital until close to eight in the evening.

  • Adrian/Alien has taken over the coordination of the funeral and post death arrangements. Object, trackend, pigfarmer and I are all pretty exhausted right now.

The driving is not to the hospital but to his 2 lockups in west london, fruitbats in east london and my place (he has a dresser in my garage).

It may be best it we have a number of cars/vans and get one to do each place...

  • Happy to do East London as I am SE- where would i be taking the stuff?

  • Well I don't mind where I go and am pleased to help if teatime is not too late?

  • i'll bell you tonight, jiggo.
    i can probably help, too.

  • DJ- have PM'd you my number.

  • i raise my glass to paul roantree, also known as fifty fourteen to you and me.
    x

  • I have a car, roof rack and some rope so can help out if needed, just send me a PM.

  • never met the man but he seemed like a great character. real sorry to hear the news.

  • Just want to say I FUCKING LOVE YOU GUYS

Adrian for jumping in when I felt I could barely do any more - none of you will ever know the efforts he has put in over the past few days, but he has gone to task, properly project managing this. Seriously last night we were chatting and there are flow diagrams on his wall as to how to manage various logistical issues.

All the people with vans/cars offering to help. You are doubly amazing for firstly admitting to owning cars on a cycling forum and then the offer of assistance.

To say I am constantly stunned as to the people on here, and our sense of community would be an utter understatement. We all deserve a huge pat on the back/group hug etc.

Right, with my PM hat on I have PM'd some of you ref Wednesday Logistics.

Please contact me via the methods in the message, this is too big to be pm'd via the forum.

once I've got the essential 'movers' sorted, I will PM others of you to help if you have offered.

Some of you might not be used this Wednesday, don't worry - there's another day planned where you'll be needed as well.

    Thanks to all

  • Actually I hate you all.

It has come to the point where I can't talk about what lfgss has done in the past few weeks without tears coming to my eyes.
