I use 170mm cranks with shimano m520s. No pedalstrikes so far.

I am running 170mm too no problems. I wanted 165s, but the chap in Condor convinced me that on a roller, the BB shell is slightly higher than other track bikes. So pedal strike is not an issue even with V12 style platform pedals + restraps.

toeverlap might be a problem depending on the tyres you run, i know i've run into probs when running big tyres on 165mm before.

I had mudguard overlap when running 170 and flat pedals/GR9+cages, find with the mudguards off and 35c though if my memory is correct...

SPDs and 165mm cranks, 53cm frame. I've had no pedal-strikes or toeverlap with that setup.

Running 165 cranks with shimano spds, only had a problem with mudguards on, but you get used to it, no longer an issue. Incidentally, may have a black 53cm roller full bike for sale soon, if interested, check classifieds, should be in next couple of weeks.

175s, never had issues without mudguards, but I am on a 59.

fwiw mine is a 53cm, 165mm cranks, spd pedals, size 10 shoes.
toeverlap seems to happen on 32c+ for me. riding 23/25's is fine. have had up to 35c knobbly front on there though just had to be careful when turning :]

BB Drop 70.0
u been hustled

Yep. Ain't no way the BB is higher, I'd say it's lower than most track bikes.
I've had peddle strike with mine, using Sram Courier 170mm cranks and Aliums but my old Roller used to corner on rails so I pushed it pretty far.

never had an issue with pedal strike, either 165mm or 167.5, SPD's. Can only imagine its an issue with massive platform pedals
-

^^ Actually that make more sense, perhaps that is what he said. Any way he still convinced it would not be a problem on my 56cm running 25cs. I don't have a front guard so it is possible I might get the issue other people have mentioned.

Thank you for the messages!

Toe overlap isn't a problem, it's something you can get used to.

A few changes to mine, it's nearly there. A respray is on the cards, and I'll take advantage of having it stripped down to install a new headset. Biggest change so far is the wheelset which I bought from Big H on here, with 32c Paselas which are lovely for 'rolling around town.

Hi Velofunfr, What bottom bracket type/length are you running with the Gimondi
cranks. I'm planning a fixie build soon so forewarned is forearmed! Ta! -

Anyone have a 1" steamroller fork? Surly lists the axle to crown as 386mm as compared to 375mm for 1 1/8". Does this mean I should get away with standard 39-49mm brakes okay when I put it on my road bike?

So true... I noticed it when I first got my first fixed gear bike in 2008, a Steamroller. It bothered me for about 2 hours. Still on (more or less) the same bike and haven't thought about it since

yeh toe overlap is a small price to pay for compared to the sacrifices you make on a (track)bike which does not have toe overlap.
-
• #1623
I actually wish the wheelbase on the steamroller was a lot shorter
-
• #1624
Why that? If you want it to feel more nimble, fit a road fork on.

Yes, standard road brake reach should be fine, I'm using BRS-1 which have a 47mm reach, work perfectly.
Hey Steamrollers, how are you experiences with longer than 165mm crankarms on? Any pedal strike issues? What pedals did you run?
