  • Here's the latest incarnation of my Steamroller - sans Yanco pad, plus race blades

  • can someone please recommend me a good 57mm drop brake caliper that is available in black and isn't massively expensive. mine wants replacing and condor only had silver.

what are you using on your steamroller? Thanks.

  • What it came with - Tektro I believe

  • ^^^^ or go to wiggle for free delivery

  • I'd love to put full length mudguards on my Steamroller, but no eyelets. OK can fix that by using P-clips, but what if I need to remove the wheel? The clearance is reasonably tight, would I have to take off the mudguard when I got a puncture?

  • Oops, they are cheaper at wiggle too! I missed that!

I have SKS full guards on my Bob Jackson. I used the quick release clips that are provided for the front mudguard (so it detaches if something gets stuck twixt wheel and guard, rather than you going over the bars) to attache the rear one to the P clips. That way you can eaily dteach the mudguard (with a little force) when you need to take the wheel out. Works well.

Great idea, Momentum. Spare clips are 99p a pair for SJS BTW.

The thing is, how often do you removed the rear wheel? you don't usually need to removed the mudguard to removed tha backwheel, I find a simple deflate tyres helped get it out of the track end.

    Have a look at these - http://www.crudproducts.com/products/roadracer
I fitted them on my geared bike and they work well. One problem for front only or brakeless may be that one of the fixings is a cable tie to the brake caliper.

They are splendid and look great on a modern bike, but I don't think they suit a retro bike like mine.

I'll defo go for the SKS.

  • I love my Steamroller. I use it just as much for distance as I do riding to work, an incredibly versatile bike. With the Saddle and the Deep Vs it's a little on the heavy side but with the tight clearances it's also very nimble for riding around the city.

  • nice, what hubs you got there?

  • A pair of polished 32H Paul Comps.

  • that build makes me miss the hell out of mine (got nicked a year ago).

  • Just bought myself a steamroller frameset to build up - what headset / stem combos are people using?

  • just find out what stem length you need first.
