  • Love those Affinity lo-pros. Someone on here has a lush grey one.

So far for the Surly I've ordered a Thomson 90mm stem w/ 26.0mm clamp, Nitto RB-018 bullhorns, a new set of Messenger cranks and will push the button on the Chris King tomorrow.

Was thinking of going with a stainless Surly ring & XD2 cranks, but that'd mean replacing bottom bracket and rear sprocket. Why on earth does every set of cranks have a different BCD and give a different chainline? Stoopid.

Hoping that I've remembered correctly and my seatpost is 27.2mm..

  • Sam overshot so far that he ended up in another city when he came out with us. We stopped at Mark's house, Sam stopped in Colchester.

haha that was hilarious couldn't get my feet back on the pedals to stop they were spinning so fast

  • What size frame did you get - and have you tried one with that stem and bars?

  • Ha yeah, that was funny.

  • What size frame did you get - and have you tried one with that stem and bars?

Its a 56cm frame, and the geometry is as per the Ribble. Bars are same width, and the upturn of the bulls is a touch further away than the hoods on the Ribble, so I reckon it'll be just about perfect with the stem 30mm shorter. If not, it's no skin off my nose, got a good price for the stem so I'm sure I could re-home it if necessary.

Nowhere around here does Surly, so haven't had a chance to try one, but I'm pretty confident it'll suit me.

  • The bike shop under pilch offered to get me a surly in, I then decided it wasn't for me really.

Ill have some pictures of my new ride up here tomorrow, should have been here today but aparently when you pay for 24hour delivery it doesn't mean 24 hour to royal mail!

  • Spence, thanks for today. Put it in the lock-up, went to meeting, came out at 7.30 and couldn't get the bloody thing open. Will have to hang around like a bike thief tomorrow and wait for someone to go in. Will drop cash off at your desk.

  • There's a lo-pro on ebay at the moment, collection only from Diss. No bids and starting at £25. Could go cheap.

  • Awh no worries man was nice meeting you too. Yeah I had that problem a couple of times, usually just ask someone and they should be able to open it, if not lock it up outside the bike shed if they let you?

Yeah that's fine chap, will do lunch one day if you fancy?

  • lo-pro hey...... note to self I need no more bikes!

  • got a link to the ebay lo pro?

  • No idea what size that is, it looks small for me (6ft+)

  • cheers. Gonna watch it and see how it goes.

Lunch sounds good. It can be a bit grab-it-when-you-can for me, but some days are slower than others.

  • Yeah mines the same to be honest, sometimes I'll have a whole hour, other times just 10-15 minutes.

  • really want a frame like this. not sure what make though!

  • my old Pug and my friends Raleigh. He should be joining us soon hes got a new bike coming!

  • Is your friend called Robin?

  • nice grips

  • Nope lewis. I have a friend called Robin but he's from Coventry.

  • Is your friend getting a brake before he joins us, or some straps? I'm gonna take out some injury insurance before this summer.

  • Is riding brakeless more or less advisable, would you say, than riding on snowy roads, on a track bike, with a touring bike on your back?

Thomson stem arrived today. A more beautifully machined bit of metal you never did see. Bargain too.

Came in it's own little bag. Wish Charlie The Bikemonger would get back to me about the 'Roller though, still haven't heard.

  • Neither are advisable, but riding on snowy roads was safer because I had two ways of stopping, and a brakeless track bike has one, pretty ropey way. The majority of people riding brakeless are dangerous, plain and simple. Why you wouldn't fit one, I don't know; fashion is obviously far more important than not killing yourself or ramming into the back of someone else. I wouldn't be happy if someone shunted into me for want of a brake.

Seen their stems, nice stuff. Was advised to get a Thomson seatpost today at my bike fit because they do a no-layback version.

  • I love that about bike parts, that certain companies specialise so completely - Thomson with stems and posts, Chris King with headsets, Sugino with cranks.

This is the look I'm going for with the Surly - crudcatcha & snow tires optional..

Oh and will probably put a Flite on it eventually. Wont be rideable until March - just in time for the Spring, woot.
