  • I am finished with Claridge's, wherever and whatever it is:

Also, been having a discussion with OH about getting chickens (we're not going to, just theoretical). She asked, 'If we rescued some chickens from slaughter and kept them, would you eat the eggs?' I obviously answered no, because I don't eat animal produce, but I'm aware that's not really much of an argument if you've done the right thing in rescuing them and then have a stack of eggs that would go to waste. Is there an official vegan party line on this? Should I eat my imaginary chickens' imaginary eggs?

  • Last non vegan thing I ate on purpose was an egg from a house with an honesty box where I could see the happy little chickens, mid way through riding Manchester to Brighton so was consumed boiled and put in a pot noodle, 6 months after going vegan.
Doubt I would again but not really against it if you've got chickens and they're going to waste otherwise. You could also just give them to someone who eats them, would save them buying farmed ones.

  • Last non-vegan thing I had was boiled eggs when I was running through the mountains in Afghanistan. When you're turning up at some of the poorest villages on the planet and throwing yourself on their generosity, you can't really give them a list of your western bourgeois proclivities. As the chickens were running around at my feet, I didn't feel too bad about it either.

  • Ate a ton of Palace Culture's Sacre Bleu vegan blue cheese yesterday. Very addictive.

  • Anywhere in Central London good for a nice brunch?
    Other than Mildreds?

  • feel Cafe Van Gogh (brixton Road) is slept on.
Bonnington Cafe (Vauxhall) is good for brunch.

Farmacy (Westbourne Grove) has been well reviewed.. pics look good.

  • Have you been to cafe van gogh recently? did not enjoy it when I went- was a few years ago though.

  • yeh it was good! too busy to sit down so just had a take away though...

  • Just had the Quorn fish fingers for dinner and I have to say, they're unexpectedly one of the most nostalgia-inducing things I've eaten in a long time. Great texture, very convincing.

  • Where's good to get lunch not too far from the Tate Modern?

  • ila Vegan & Veg, Unit.2B, 125-131 Westminster Bridge Rd, London SE1 7HJ

Cheap, good mix of different hot and cold food / good snacks and cheap! 100% or pretty close to vegan

  • Thanks! I thought you might have a suggestion or two, ha ha.

  • its abit dry vegan wise around there unless you like chains.

if you fancy a tofu burger lemme know what Yen Burger is like?

    https://heyvegetarian.co.uk/08632681/yenburger

  • also Shrigley's Moroccan Cuisine has got the good falafel

  • Cheers! It's been too long since I've had a good falafel wrap.

  • theres a great falafel stall next to the pret & post office on the road that leads to London bridge- near borough market. no eat in but excellent value for money

  • I think I know the one you mean, just after the railway bridge? I'll check it out some time.

  • Quite a few highly-rated chefs going for vegan menus--it didn't work out in this case, but it happens elsewhere. As noted before, many seem to go vegan directly from a meaty menu as opposed to via a vegetarian one.

  • Good news! The National Trust recently banned "trail" hunting on their land as well.

  • Went to a couple of nice places for food last weekend, Oliveira, a mixed veggie/vegan restaurant in Shoreditch; and Brilliant Corners in Dalston. Brilliant Corners especially was great, a tasty Japanese vegan tasting menu with cool tunes and nice drinks.

  • Didn't know of the existence of Oliveira, looks good though. Will check it out, thanks for recommendation.

  • same with Natural Resources Wales - a big landowner in Wales.

  • also The John Peel Hunt have been banned from council land on Boxing day. Victories keep coming recently

  • Always nice to see the hunt having problems. Two of our locals have just had to merge due to lack of numbers.

Reminder to consider donating to your local sabbing group or the HSA, they all do excellent work and really make a massive difference almost every week
